Measles outbreak grows bigger in rural Texas, and officials expect more cases

At least 58 new cases of measles have been reported across northwest Texas in recent weeks, state health officials said Tuesday, in a "highly contagious" outbreak that might be linked to lack of vaccination.

A bulk of these new cases in rural northwest Texas are in Gaines County with 45 documented incidents of the disease, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services.

In the last three weeks, nine cases have come from Terry County, two from Yoakum County and one each from Lubbock and Lynn Counties, according to the state.

At least four patients had been vaccinated, but the "rest are unvaccinated, or their vaccination status is unknown," the health department said.

Most of the infections are in school-age kids, and 13 have been hospitalized.

More cases are expected.

...........be held responsible for unnecessarily putting their kid's health, and other kid's health, in jeopardy?

What about the HHS director if his anti-vaccine stance convinced some of those parents not to vaccinate their kids? Any responsibility there?
He's been HHS director for a week. Please stop with the nonsense. We see through you and so does the rest of America.
RFK is not against vaccines that work and have been proven scientifically to work and be good for kids. We are on to you.

Texas health officials confirmed the state’s worst outbreak of measles in nearly 30 years is concentrated in a “close-knit, undervaccinated” Mennonite community in Gaines County.

As of Feb. 18 cases had more than doubled to 58 — mostly in children and teens — and 13 people had been hospitalized. Those who are infected are either unvaccinated or their vaccination status is unknown.

Are mennonit's illegals?
Oh look that thing from SD gave this a fake news.

RFK is in fact very much against the measles vaccine. He thinks the measles vaccine actually gives people the measles.

Here's the thing. Your thread title is "Should the parents of unvaccinated kids in S. Texas..." The first sentence is"... have been reported across northwest Texas ..." Do you see the problem there?

Roughly 7.5% of kindergarteners had parents or guardians who filed for an exemption for at least one vaccine in 2013. Ten years later, that number rose to more than 17.5% -- one of the highest in all of Texas, according to state health data.

Meanwhile, in neighboring New Mexico, at least nine cases have been confirmed in Lea County, which borders Texas, a spokesperson for the state Department of Health told ABC News on Friday.

My guess is the huge increase in unvaccinated people coincides with anti COVID vaccination idiocy fomented by conservatives.

I personally don't care if others vaccinate or not. Our kids had their MMR's so if they are effective, they are protected. I had them twice--as a child and as an adult so same for me. I really see no reason to punish a parent for vaccinating or not vaccinating. It is a choice no matter what the law says.

Then change the law to mandate that children who attend public education get their MMR. Yes.
