Do You Think That Kids Should Have Homework?

Excuse me? You mean they actually did it for you and not just helped you with it? How did you ever learn anything then?
IKR? Horrible parents. And the dummy is BRAGGING about it?

My weak spot was math, and my dad was in the STEM field. (By “weak,” I mean I got a C - unacceptable in my home.) He certainly didn’t DO my homework for me; we sat for at least an hour every night after dinner with him trying to teach me.

The grades I got were the ones that I deserved in my house although I did get help with my homework when I asked for it, but my parents never actually did it for me. Btw, math is my worst subject too for the record and that was special education math.

I just found this article and I found it to be completely one hundred percent ridiculous. Sometimes I would have a couple to a few hours of homework when I was a kid but once I got it finished then I could have fun.

I say that homework prepares kids for the real world of when they have to work on bills and taxes. It also teaches them about work before play. It's like seriously! Give me a break! 🙄

Homework for a first grader? WTF? That's just wrong.

Homework just eats away at children's freedom. I had my mother and late father did my homework for me until the end of 2012-2013 school year. My father passed away in February of 2013. For the 2013-2014 school year to the 2018-2019 school year, I had a virtual charter school, thus no homework. I don't remember anything I was taught in middle and elementary school, because none will affect my future job, a security officer. Did any of my homework that my parents done will actually help a security guard? No. Also how does trigonometry, mathematics, History, Science, Biology, or chemistry help me be a security guard? It doesn't.
My Dad did my homework all the time. If I did my homework he threw it out and did it himself. After many years I realized that it wasn't to help me. It was to make himself feel like he was helping me.

You have no idea how your education has helped you interpret the world around you.

So you actually wanted to do your own homework but your dad wouldn't let you? Wow, no offense, but some of you guys had rotten parents.

I hated doing homework as a kid and I don't think any kid actually likes it but in the end it's in the child's best interest for them to do homework and for them to do it themselves.

As it's one thing to receive help but the homework is for the child not their parents and it's like Lisa558 already said, it's cheating if the parents do it for their kids and it's not teaching them anything in the end.

I did learn everything I needed to, just math I fell down. That's why I went into law. No math.

Yeah but complaining that it's about an hour's worth for first grade is making a mountain out of a molehill.
An hour for a first grader is pretty ridiculous. 10 minutes - no problem.

At third grade and below….None
You have them for six hours a day, do your job
Are you against 1st - 3rd graders learning how to write outside the classroom as an assignment? Practice how to spell their name?

These were basic homework assignments I did as a 1st-3rd grade at home (late 70s), as well as both of my children (between 2008 - 2015).

Sure, and ensure those children grasp the concept of writing by assigning homework. Write your name 5-10 times, and often, this is done by tracing with marks to spell your name. Baltimore high-school graduates could have used this as a building block for the high-rate of graduates who aren't proficient in basic writing, reading and math.
