Minnesota Prosecutor Charges Sexting Teenage Girl With Child Pornography

I was just reading this story, and it seems a bit fucked up. Apparently this 14 year old girl could be put on the sex offender registry for 10 years for sending a revealing picture to some boy at school. Isn't that like charging a sexually active teenager with child rape? Her parents should give her a talking to. Is it necessary to ruin her life? :dunno:

They aren't the first state to do that. It is flat out bullshittery.

No. The parents should be held accountable. They are the ones ALLOWING and BUYING the phones! I go through my 11 year old's phone at least a few times a week...its part of being a parent nowadays. Its called responsibility! She was going to get an iphone for her birthday but had not proved to us she was ready for it so she didn't. Instead she has an old phone we had which she can only use to watch youtube and play her spotify.

No. It's "like" producing and distributing sexually explicit images of minor. The law doesn't care who produces and distributes such images; it merely prohibits doing so.

No. I might go as high as 17 years of age before you even consider doing something like that and simple sexting isn't the crime that rape or other forms of sexual assault are....

If her name get removed from the registry after ten years, that right there in my opinion should be remembered. Would she rather her name remain there for the rest of her life? In other words, maybe getting off easy is what's really happening with her.

God bless you always!!!

The case could set a dangerous precedent, as her boyfriend spread the image and was not charged.

A dangerous precedent as it somewhat encourages revenge porn, given the picture or film was a selfie, even if not intended for mass consumption.
