Shohei leads off with a home run and pitches 5 shutout innings. Ruth never did that.

More than 700 home runs beginning in the squash ball era morphing seamless into the modern age and averaged career wise more than .340. Only Ted Williams, if he had those five missed seasons, could have challenged that.

Ruth hit far more HRs than anyone in his era. He looked dominant because he was dominant.:rolleyes:
he was dominate because those guys went from a crappy ball, were its mostly hit and run to a ball that was harder and goes farther and faster and Ruth was the only guy hitting for power everyone else was still hit and run....ty cobb in an interview that supposed to be around 1923 was asked how come no one was hitting for power like ruth,,he said the boys as soon as they figure this faster ball out you will see more ....and low and behold the late 20's and 30's all kinds of players hitting 30,40 and even 50 hrs...if ruth played in the 30's and had his same numbers he would just look like another of the great homer guys from that era...but he would not have been as dominate as he was in the 20's....when one hits 50 hr and next guy has 23 you look dominate....when you hit 50 but there are maybe 20 other players hitting 30 or 40 or even 50 hrs...you dont look so dominate....

If, if, if…..

IF only you pontificators would step into reality.

You just showed us you don't understand the history or the nature of MLB.

Just don't reply to Harry Dresden on baseball. He is being willfully ignorant.

I've always said that you can't critique the different era's using just one criteria.
Judge each in their own era. The sport as in music is a progression. You have to go through
one era to get to the next era.

Well expressed. Ruth would have excelled in any era, imo, whether pitching or hitting.

He might have been. He would also have had the benefit if being groomed all his life, like today's players.
right but when he was hitting 50 hr and the next guy was hitting 23 he looked pretty dominate, but in the late 20's and into the 30's there were many guys hitting as many as he was,now he was just another great homer guy...

Well sure, they all copied him.

15th post
but he would not have been so dominate....
Sure he would. So would have Gehrig, Fox, Simmons, and a Riggs Stephenson if he could have stayed healthy.

It's still the same athleticism and coordination that set them apart.

Did you know a rookie struck out Joe Sewell once in 1930 and he struck out only one more time all season?

We have great ballplayers today, but they are no heads and shoulders above those of the 20s and 30s.

whats your opinion of being dominate?...yours is different then mine...

That could be so. I

I would like to see the All Star teams of 1934 and 2026 play each other in a seven game set.
the guys in the thirties would be seeing faster pitches by pitchers who are bigger and stronger then the ones they are used to...speaking of the all stars i wish they would play it after the series is over and make it a three game series playing for charities...
