hooray for hollywood
to me, has always been a political bastion of liberalism. i was stunned to hear that:
Last year’s Oscar nominations drew howls of protests for their lack of diversity. This year, it’s even worse.
“Creed” was written and directed by the black Ryan Coogler and starred a black man, but the only nominee was a white man. “Straight Outta Compton” had a great acting ensemble of mostly young, black unknowns, and was directed by the black F. Gary Gray. But the film’s only nomination: for its screenplay, written by two Caucasians.
Last year, the hopes for diversity were based on one film, Paramount’s “Selma,” which earned two nominations, for best pic and song (winning the latter). This year, there were more opportunities, including “Creed,” “Straight Outta Compton” and “Chi-raq,” as well as “Beasts of No Nation” (directed by Cary Fukunaga). As with last year, the Hispanic/Latino filmmakers were represented only by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu and his team in the “money” categories.
hollywood is paramount (pun intended) in it's political identity. conservative actors and directors will tell you they mostly keep their mouths shut if they want to work. there are of course exceptions to the rule.

Conservatives in Hollywood are so heavily discriminated against that they are forced to go underground and even have secret meetings. Not identifying as a liberal in the movie industry is a potential career killer.
“In LA, there is a secret, underground group of showbiz conservatives,” Victoria Jackson, a former Saturday Night Live cast member, told the Huffington Post. “It started with two people in 2000. I was at the fifth or tenth meeting, and now there are over 2,000 people. The only ones out of the closet are Jon Voight and Pat Boone. There are famous people in there, but they don’t want to lose their career — and conservatives are blacklisted.”
Vince Vaughn Will Be Shunned By Hollywood After Outing Himself as a Conservative
the question is how in the world could this happen ?? these are the people in the business of shaping the image, representation and presentation of liberal morals and motivation, it would be like macdonalds screwing up the happy meal.
everyone knows that hollywood has fostered generations of idealism with socialist roots, they should be able to get this right. they are now embroiled in the quagmire of the thing they supposedly stand against. there are many arguments to be made in their own defense, such as the quality or popularity of those judged for nomination.
to a conservative like me, it's pretty funny having it's collective liberal hypocritical pants down around their ankles.
maybe they can make a movie about this, susan sarandon and danny glover will always be employable.
or is this internal bigotry (i won't call it racism) and blacklisting all over again ?
this bleeds into other areas, like professional sports, i've heard stories of ball players, keep their political opinions to themselves to get along. political pressure from someone is everywhere, but the libs own it right now.
would it be worse if they manipulated the nominations to appease their long time image ? with the appearance of will smith and jada pinkett smith (some others & it will grow between now and showtime), this will be a story to watch.
straight outta compton was pretty darn good.
