Taxpayers win, sort of...!

The amount of revenue this tax will bring in barely scratches the surface of covering the cost of gun violence in Seattle.

Between 2006 and 2010, there were on average 131 firearms deaths a year in King County, according to Public Health-Seattle and King County. An additional 536 people required hospitalization for shooting injuries during that time.

Officials say the direct medical costs of treating 253 gunshot victims at Harborview Medical Center in 2014 totaled more than $17 million. Taxpayers paid more than $12 million of that. City officials estimate the new tax would bring in $300,000 to $500,000 a year, but gun shop owners told council members those numbers were inflated. They said the law would cost them customers and sales and could force them to move out of the city.

The thing we all would say would happen once government took over healthcare. The argument that it cost taxpayers money to shoot a gun, smoke a cigarette, and do whatever else we want would force the government to crack down on those habits. I'm so fuckin glad we have "liberals" to defend us from this garbage.

Right law abiding white gun owners should pay a tax because blacks and illegals shoot people that makes perfect sense. /sarcasm Fortunately conservatives don't live in Seattle its infested with liberals from California so they taxed themselves the idiots.

I think the left has found a new weapon against anything they don't like. If they don't like the church down the street--tax it. If they do t like the capitalist system--tax it. If they do t like gun dealers--tax them.

"But the judge found the measure falls within the city's taxing authority and is not an impermissible regulation."

Correct.

The lawsuit was without merit.

Bull, the city didn't say which taxpayers paid the bills, were they city, State or federal taxpayers. Also crime prevention programs should be paid for by taxpayers at large.

And we know the city lied because everyone in 2014 had health insurance through maobamacare so it couldn't have possibly cost the taxpayers a dime.

The city will lose on appeal or they will lose when all the gun shops leave the city limits.

Trying to control people through punitive taxation is nothing new for Democrats. They've been doing it for years.

But typical of liberals, they refuse to understand or accept the philosophy of action/ reaction. All this law would do is get people to go out of town to purchase guns. Some may even purchase them for resale to friends, family, coworkers and neighbors.

I wonder if this judge realizes that criminals won't be paying this tax, just those wanting to defend themselves from the criminals.

Another dumb useless tax. Obamacare is costing tax payers a fortune so standby for my tax increases there

Let me guess, these scum killed by gun crime were paying the penalty to NOT have healthcare? What difference does it make, the tax payers are paying for it one way or another, Why is a tax needed when we have Obamacare?

And watch gun dealers move out f Seattle to the suburbs, depriving the city of tax revenue.
AMazingly every attempt to "stilck it" to gun owners falls flat.
It wouldn't, because revenue isn't the point, social engineering is. Gun dealers moving out of the city is precisely what they want.

Allegedly they want fewer guns in the city. But that of course is a pipe dream. What they'll get are fewer guns in the hands of law abiding people and more in the hands of criminals.
Because libs are too stupid to recognize the difference.

They may actually get fewer guns overall in absolute numbers, but the percentage of guns in the hands of criminals vs the hands of the law-abiding will skyrocket.

Sounds like Seattle has bigger problems than guns... like here in NOLA... blacks are killing themselves off at alarming rates and idiot mayor Mitch Landreau fixates on moving a monument to Robert E. Lee. Fucking stupid-ass liberals.

These liberals have to be some of the dumbest motherfuckers on the planet.

Perhaps, but when businesses walk, so does their tax money and jobs. As the article noted, VA is the home of the NRA who may be considering the same thing.
