Liberals claim they're proponents of freedom, but at the end of the day they're proponents of ideas forced on them to justify their existence, and it doesn't matter how absurd (e.g., men were intended to marry, have kids and use the women's bathroom.) They're easily swayed as a group. In their minds, the real truth is, "this is how you should think, and anyone who doesn't adopt these ideas must be punished".
