Schumer Trots Out 'A Matter of Life and Death' Trope in Defense of Taxpayer Funding of PBS, NPR

Oh, they won't. The Walton Family Foundation, The George MacArthur foundation. Those places will kick in to fill the gap, the work NPR does is that important to those foundations, and others. Which means they won't be contributing in other areas.
Money for leftist propaganda networks should be paid for by leftist donors.

The ignorance in this thread is absolutely mind boggling. 37% of people in North Carolina that make less than twenty grand a year have no internet access. I doubt they have cable TV. During Helene Western North Carolina was absolutely dependent on PBS. For days, they were the only news source on the ground and they provided vital information concerning available assistance, food and water drop-off sites, and contacting emergency response teams

North Carolina has the largest rural population in the country, other than Texas. The service area covered by Blue Ridge Public Radio, which can be seen here,

Is sparsely populated, mountainous, with limited access in some areas that are still being affected by Helene storm damage.
So, let me get this straight....you want me to believe that if the government doesn't
give them money for their liberal slants, that North Carolina will not have access
to PBS?
Is that what you're suggesting, and I'm supposed to believe that???

No, what I am saying is that rural stations could be eliminated. While most of the stations in North Carolina get the bulk of their funding from donations, both private and foundations, the rural stations are often heavily dependent on that government money.

And what is funny, not all of these NPR stations are news stations. The one station most heavily dependent on public funding, a jazz station out of Durham. The only station with no public funding, a classical music station out of Winston Salem.

And the claim of a bias is just not there. Sure, they feature programs about gay people maybe a bit too much. But the news, it is unbiased. In political coverage they always have a Republican and a Democrat on the discussion panel. And that is the other thing. On NPR you get comprehensive coverage of political issues and news events, especially local news. Like Charlotte Talks for instance, the best source for news in the Charlotte area by far.

I mean it is ironic, immediately after passing this bill that is eliminating funding to NPR Congress passed a bill helping Vets who got behind on their mortgage. It was Biden that eliminated a previous program at the beginning of his administration. It was investigative reporting by NPR that brought attention to the matter, forcing the Biden administration to provide a program to help those vets. Then Trump came along, eliminated that program and did not replace it, until this new Congressional act. It is save to say, without NPR's investigative reporting those vets would still be suffering.

Describe the work that you believe that they do.

You are so ******* stupid
I mean mind numbingly stupid and arrogant.

here in NC will actually have cable TV
Radios
The internet
Steaming services -
Phone service that interrupts any and every time that there is an emergency where it is weather related, a child abduction or a silver alert.

No one -

NO ONE was dependent on PBS or NPR

No one.

There’s real panic in Schumerland as the democrat politburo mouthpieces of NPR and PBS are losing funding.

Schumer is relegated to the leftist slogan, millions will dieâ„¢ as he sees those propaganda outlets losing taxpayer dollars.

If you're not already convinced that there's no low to which Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) won't stoop as he misconstrues (lies about) all things President Donald Trump and the Republican Party, his latest little song and dance routine should do the trick.

They bribe him with pastrami sandwiches.

That must be it.

Your sides fault.
They have been warned and threatened for years to stop their egregious one sided news coverage.
They refused.
They are paying the price for not changing.
Your fault

FAFO, as it were.

Dear Chuck Schumer:

Poor people don't give a flying **** about PBS and NPR, they have cable TV and internet. PBS and NPR is for rich liberal elitists who sit around all day and ***** about how "Poor people don't have cable TV and internet."

Now go **** yourself with a rusty AIDS-infected cactus.

Signed, JGalt

Just where in NC do you live? What county? And just how familiar are you with Western North Carolina? I mean you are the clueless one. I worked Western North Carolina extensively years ago. The people are amazing. I mean I went to places where the sun doesn't shine because of the tree coverage and the depth of the valley. Cell phone service, not happening. I posted a map of BPR's towers, you got one of cell towers that can even come close to that coverage. Where the hell do you think an emergency alert is going to come from.

Ever been to Amish country in Cleveland county? Only way to get internet, Hughes satellite service. You think those Amish have cable TV, LOL. I mean the Helene disaster response was filled with ripoff artists and conmen. I mean they flocked to the area. Was FOX news there to help point them out? How about those ******* stupid internet sites, Townhall that is in the OP, Pajama Media, I mean any of them. Were they there, were they on the ground. Hell ******* no, NPR was.

And television, well yeah, Western North Carolina is Sinclair Broadcasting territory. Hell, they make MSNBC appear unbiased, so far leaning to the right that they refused to broadcast This Week on ABC. I think they still might still refuse it. I don't watch television anymore.

I mean Trump's treatment of these people, it is going to cost him big time. The Republican party, they may actually lose some house seats. While you MAGA nuts were screaming that Biden was abandoning them, that FEMA refused to visit houses with Trump signs in the yard, what did Trump do when he took office. Promptly ending federal funding for trash removal services. Refused to allow FEMA trailers in the area, hell, I saw the train hauling them away. It was huge.

I mean let's not kid ourselves. You, Trump, the MAGA crowd, you all believe this defunding is about a news bias at NPR. It is not. It is about keeping people like you stupid. There is one statistic from years ago that solidified my position as an NPR supporter. Ninety percent of FOX news viewers believed there were WMD's in Iraq. Only ten percent of NPR listeners believed that. Were there any WMD's there? Enough said.

I really doubt that there would be any pull back from PBS and NPR.
If you can't see the political bias from those stations then you're not looking very hard.
Even employees admit to the bias.

Chantel just flooded Chapel Hill
Residents of Chapel Hill most likely have NPR on an IV drip with actual news stations blocked on their devices.

The rest of your post is ridiculous

". . . It’s true NPR has always had a liberal bent, but during most of my tenure here, an open-minded, curious culture prevailed. We were nerdy, but not knee-jerk, activist, or scolding.

In recent years, however, that has changed. Today, those who listen to NPR or read its coverage online find something different: the distilled worldview of a very small segment of the U.S. population.

If you are conservative, you will read this and say, duh, it’s always been this way. . . "

<SNIP>

".. . . But when the Mueller report found no credible evidence of collusion, NPR’s coverage was notably sparse. Russiagate quietly faded from our programming.

It is one thing to swing and miss on a major story. Unfortunately, it happens. You follow the wrong leads, you get misled by sources you trusted, you’re emotionally invested in a narrative, and bits of circumstantial evidence never add up. It’s bad to blow a big story.

What’s worse is to pretend it never happened, to move on with no mea culpas, no self-reflection. Especially when you expect high standards of transparency from public figures and institutions, but don’t practice those standards yourself. That’s what shatters trust and engenders cynicism about the media.

Russiagate was not NPR’s only miscue. . . ."

This was a great article and interview, I read it when it came out. NPR fired him for this, btw. Commies.

Honestly anyone who can't admit that NPR has a total left wing agenda by design should simply be dismissed
I know I'm guilty too, but nature so abhors a vacuum -

NO ONE was dependent on PBS or NPR

This is categorically false.

The propagandists at NPR and PBS that depend on federal funding for their jobs? They are dependent on these organizations.

Chantel just flooded Chapel Hill
Residents of Chapel Hill most likely have NPR on an IV drip with actual news stations blocked on their devices.

The rest of your post is ridiculous
Oh wow, are you Jesse Helms reincarnated? What the **** do you know about Chapel Hill? A beautiful town, I call it my second home. Some of the best years of my life were spent there. Carolina is called the Ivy League of public universities, and for good reason. I studied under two Nobel laureates.

I got to ask you. What do you have against intelligence, against learning? I mean there is a reason slaves were banned from learning to read. Is the Republican party going down that same path?

No, my time in Chapel HIll was some of the best years of my life. But I got to admit, I had it pretty sweet. A single room, in Old East, oldest dorm in the United States. And I got that single room immediately after a complete remodel. I mean I won the lottery, for real. I could fall out of bed at 7:30 and make it to an eight o'clock class. And Franklin Street, just a hop and a skip away.

And what do you call news stories? The OP? LOL, the author is a fiction writer, go figure. Read his novels, not his damn so-called news posts. Not like I am a fan of fantasy based Western novels.
.
But do you really live in North Carolina? I mean I asked, what county. I promise, I won't hunt you down. I live in the tenth district, Catawba County, Hickory. The tenth is arguably the reddest district in the country. I mean these are good people, the salt of the earth, they just ain't too smart. And that is OK. Hell, we need these people.

I mean I hire a guy to mow my lawn. He does great work, weed eats, clears debris from the limbs falling from trees because my backyard is part of some of the last remaining virgin forests in the country. But his mower broke last week. He struggles, is on disability, got kids to take care of. I prepaid him so that he could get the parts to fix his mower. And he did, but it broke again.

But I hear the sound of a mower, or something, and I go check. He is covered in sweat, it is like ninety degrees, and he is mowing my yard with a weedeater. I wanted to cry. He is the person the MAGA movement depends on. And Trump, he uses and abuses these people to an extraordinary degree. He has no conscious. And no, he is not chosen by God. In fact, there is a special place in hell already reserved for him.

More ignorance, in North Carolina government funding accounts for something like 7% to 22% of a member stations budget. The vast majority of their funding comes from donations.
That is why they don't need Federal funding.

What do you have against intelligence, against learning?
