Saltwater Brewery Creates Edible Six-Pack Rings | CraftBeer.com
The devastating effects that plastic six-pack rings can have to both wildlife and the environment has been proven time and time again. Several years ago, PakTech introduced new packaging, a hard plastic cover that clamps to the top of a six-pack of cans. You know, the one that allows six-packs to be stacked and handled much more easily—while also making it nearly impossible to remove your beer?
Finally, a better, more sustainable, alternative to packaging has been created.
Saltwater Brewery in Delray Beach, Fla., recently released edible six-pack rings, a brand-new approach to sustainable beer packaging. These six-pack rings are 100 percent biodegradable and edible—constructed of barley and wheat ribbons from the brewing process, this packaging can actually be safely eaten by animals that may come into contact with the refuse.
