America
One of the truly good ones died. Joe Bageant saw things as they are, check out his site and read some of his insights into America below.

"As an Anglo European white guy from a very long line of white guys, I want to thank all the brown, black, yellow and red people for a marvelous three-century joy ride. During the past 300 years of the industrial age, as Europeans, and later as Americans, we have managed to consume infinitely more than we ever produced, thanks to colonialism, crooked deals with despotic potentates and good old gunboats and grapeshot. Yes, we have lived, and still live, extravagant lifestyles far above the rest of you. And so, my sincere thanks to all of you folks around the world working in sweatshops, or living on two bucks a day, even though you sit on vast oil deposits. And to those outside my window here in Mexico this morning, the two guys pruning the retired gringoes hedges with what look like pocket knives, I say, keep up the good work. It's the world's cheap labor guys like you - the black, brown and yellow folks who take it up the shorts - who make capitalism look like it actually works. So keep on humping. Remember: We've got predator drones." Joe Bageant

Why is it that you libbies have to categorize people by color?

good damn question. Remember right after the election? On this vewy board.. They strutted around and told us white people to sit down and stfu, that we were now irrelevent.. and the white demonRats just sat there passively letting it happen.. it was a real eye opener...into hatred.

white guilt.

it's not just for breakfast any more.

thanks for the laugh

Can you guys share with us who gives you these brilliant repartees? They seem rather common and one can always expect them, the same them, are you all tied into the same teletype or some archaic machine that gives you your instructions? Odd how none of you have a thought deeper than three words or maybe four if you are really trying hard.

"Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else's opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation." Oscar Wilde

The guy was an idiot. How can we consume infinitely more than we produce? Europe, and later America, have produced more than they consumed. This can be demonstrated by the fact that European and American products are found all over the world.

Where are the huge trash piles full of African goods?

How can someone produce honest commentary without acknowledging that capitalism is that natural law of economics? You can't deny such a fundamental truth of life and really be considered an honest commentator can you?

Reality is that when there is no government, capitalism is what happens. People exchange their goods and services with each other for both their benefits.

i didn't see any "white guilt" in his writing.

For the record, his book "Deer Hunting With Jesus" was a great read. Truly thought-provoking. and some of the rightwingnuts who vote against their own self-interest might actually have benefitted from it...

What's not to like about Joe Bageant? Everything? A wanna-be gonzo substance abusing journalist who didn't have what it takes to be Hunter Thompson so he turned on his Country with hate filled rhetoric that nobody read except fellow haters.

nice to know respecting the dead doesn't apply to people rightwingnuts don't approve of.

stay classy

I'm also going to guess you never read a word he wrote given he absolutely DIDN'T hate this country.

Respecting the dead? This ain't an obituary column, it's a discussion about media personalities. I read enough of his stuff on line to know that he was a socialist and that he said Bush being elected was like Hitler rising to power. That statement is neither accurate nor clever. It is pure hatred and it is offensive on many levels.

Please stop pretending that people don't disrespect the dead on both sides of the aisle.

What the fuck gives the dead special status? Should I talk nice about Hitler because e is dead? Forgive me it I am not a lying hypocrite. If that makes me a conservative in your eyes than I am happy to know that I am not whatever it is that you respect.
