Russia and China co-operating more often and more closely in the Arctic, says NORAD commander

With satellite tech, I am not sure we need to have Greenland as a territory.

We have a military base there. We could expand military presence without it becoming a territory.

Germany
South Korea
Japan

We have thousands of troops in these countries and they are not US TERRITORIES.
But they have lots of people there and militaries of their own. Greenland has a few thousand Innuits and I'll bet most don't have guns except for shooting polar bears.

America needs Greenland. NATO absent America is not able to hold off China and Russia.

WWIII can be averted if good men of character stand up for liberty and freedom of citizens. Nations that violate citizens rights or who are unwilling to defend such rights should be excluded from defense pacts by those who have a defended Constitution.

There's been a subtle but significant shift in what NORAD has been seeing over the last year when it comes to mostly Russian — but also Chinese — activity in the Arctic, says the top commander of the North American Aerospace Defence Command (NORAD).

U.S. Gen. Gregory Guillot tells CBC News that air and sea incursions into the zones just outside North America have not only become more frequent, but also more co-ordinated.

"I'd say the most consequential difference in 2025 has been the volume, the simultaneous volume," Guillot said in an exclusive interview.

"Sometimes we'll have — instead of a ship — there might be four or five ships at the same time operating in various parts of the Arctic Ocean down into the Bering area," Guillot said.

And then a few hours later, he said, there will be an air incursion in a different part of the region.
As usual you are wrong. Russia and China are taking advantage of the chaos Trump is sowing among our allies. China and Russia just love what Trump is doing in Greenland because nothing makes them happier than seeing the US destroying our alliances and the world order that the West created.

Stop being a useful idiot for the Russians and Chinese.

At about the same time these attempts wer being made, they were also wanting to annex the Philipines.

The world has moved on from colonial thinking...everywhere except in MAGA land apparently.
It was wise to abandon attempts at annexing territory outside our hemisphere. Returning fully to the Monroe Doctrine is the best way to ensure our long term security and build lasting stability within the region. Removing the Eurotrash taint in Greenland is a good first step.

Nothing is more MAGA than reliance on a doctrine drawn up in the early 1800’s.

You sound like a ******* idiot....

because you ARE a ******* idiot.

Anyone who thinks we have no business in Greenland is a complete idiot.

"China asserts its right to operate in Greenland under international law, countering U.S. concerns about its growing influence by framing its Arctic activities as promoting peace and sustainable development, not control, as part of its "Polar Silk Road" strategy to boost economic ties and access resources like rare earths, even as it faces project blocks but maintains interest in infrastructure like airports and mining.

China's Stance & Motivations:
  • "Near-Arctic State": China declared itself a "near-Arctic state" in 2018 to increase its regional footprint, according to CSIS and WRAL.
  • : As part of its , China aims to develop Arctic shipping routes and infrastructure, notes WRAL and CSIS.
  • Resources & Infrastructure: China seeks access to Greenland's vast rare earth minerals and has bid on major infrastructure projects, like airports, offering development in exchange for economic access, reports CSIS and BBC.
Response to U.S. Actions:
  • In January 2026, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning criticized U.S. interest in acquiring Greenland, stating the U.S. shouldn't use other nations as a "pretext".
  • Beijing emphasizes that its Arctic activities are peaceful, lawful, and aim for regional stability, not control, according to WRAL, KSAT, and The Copenhagen Post.
Greenland's Position:
  • Greenland's leaders insist any decisions about their future must be made by their people, rejecting outside takeover attempts by any nation, say KSAT and The Armidale Express.
  • While preferring Western partners, Greenland's government acknowledges it may need to seek investment from China if Western partners don't step up, notes CSIS."

Both Russia and the US have had a missle sub under the Arctic ice pack for about 50 years now. The reason for this is that the only vessel in the world that can get to them is another submarine. As China flexes it’s muscle, they too will put a missile platform (aka sub) in the arctic too. As long as we have nukes pointed at them, it is only prudent for them to respond in kind.

This hysteria about greenland is ridiculous but we elected a clown with little to no understanding of such elementary naval strategy so we shouldn’t be surprised that we now have this circus.

Hit a nerve there Candykook? The Monroe Doctrine is common sense, oh I see the problem now. Common sense eludes you, always has. Run along and side with foreigners like the traitor you are. Pathetic.

No one is saying we don’t have an interest in Greenland. What all rational people are saying is that the idea of invading Greenland or destroying the NATO alliance over Greenland is absolute lunacy given the US already has free rein in Greenland and Denmark has been nothing if not a faithful ally of the US for over the past 80 years. Greenland was a non-issue until a few months ago.

BTW where are the Epstein files?

Trump is not going to "invade" Greenland. He says stuff like that because he knows how you people will react. But he is right about its strategic importance, as well as China's expansion into the Arctic.

BTW: The Epstein files have nothing to do with Trump.

No doubt Greenland is of high strategic value. I agree Trump will probably not invade Greenland but then what is the purpose of his rhetoric? All he is doing is driving a wedge with our allies. For Heaven’s sake they are talking about sending EU troops to defend Greenland.

The only countries benefiting from this tension are Russia and China.

The Eurotrash will quickly realize they are in no position to maintain an arctic deployment for long. They will be making Trump's point for him while embarrassing themselves on the global stage.

You're hysterical, aren't you? Do you really expect me to take serious someone who still believes there are "Russian Pee Tapes" and January 6 was an "insurrection"?

Please tell us how missile submarines can launch through the ice pack.

lol. Do you think these are tour groups? China even plays thos card when they send 200 fishing boats in the SCS. A bit of a more difficult PR task in the Arctic.

This is a CBC source. Government owned media.

If CBC is reporting this, and Ive read these stories for years with Russian and China ships roaming the region from time to time; this suggests that it concerns Canada.

Ultimately, Greenlanders have wanted independence for decades. Why isnt the media asking why Denmarks monarchy is allowed to control the destiny of these largely Iniut population?

The irony is so rich. Racism is everywhere, but only if it's in America. Bullsh*%.

Offer them a deal like the Virgin Islands, with some sweeteners of cash, shared resource revenue etc. A win/win.

If one day these two attack Greenland, the headaches that follow will dwarf any issues with the EU and NATO nations who are probably worried it will encourage other monarchy colonies to seek U.S deals. This is legitimately about national.security first, resource extraction etc second. Canada would be in a far worse position if.China/Russia took Greenland.

Explain how China and Russia would move enough military assets into Greenland to conquer it without the US Navy wiping them out. The movie "Red Dawn" was not a a documentary.

...like you guys threw Biden under the bus? Trumpelstiltskin usually <<<<spins>>>> MSM lies into gold...just keep watching.

We prevailed upon Biden not to run. They probably should have done that a lot sooner, because Harris didn't have time to mount an effective campaign.

Now we are all suffering for it, because Trump is more deranged and less competent than he was the first time

Big countries are realizing that Donald Trump is going to try to take over not just Venezuela and Greenland, but the whole world one country by one. . If they don’t act, they figure, the United States will own the world.
