''Running Man'' remake

I had no idea they did that to Vettes. I thought they were all Caddies?

I also did not know the Schwarzenegger movie was a remake.

I had forgotten about the Mary Kay Caddies. Think I've only ever seen one of those.

The trailer looks entertaining...

In the plot of the previous 1987 version, which I think was itself a remake with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the lead role, ''following a worldwide economic collapse and resource scarcity, the United States has become a totalitarian police state. The government maintains control through propaganda, censoring unsanctioned art, music, and communications. The most popular TV show, The Running Man, is a state-controlled game show where incarcerated criminals can earn their freedom by surviving as "runners" against lethal "stalkers".

Think this is a different plot, though.

I haven't ever read the book or seen the original '60s version.

Also, Crepitus I noticed that the Mary Kay C4 makes an appearance. I only tagged you because you're probably the only one on here who knows what I'm talking about by that. Heh heh...

It looks as though it will be closer to the book than the 1987 version.

Glenn Powell is having a moment to be sure. He's a good actor, I hope he doesn't get overexposed.

There are legitimate reasons to remake a movie.

To take a film that originally had a limited or overseas release to expose it to a wider audience.

To make a treatment with better production value that might not have been available for the original

Or, to fix flaws in the original where it deviates from the source material.

But, to take a widely respected movie and release a remake as a soulless cash grab or to make a social or political statement is one of the few offenses that humans can commit worthy of the death penalty.

It's a good thing the 1987 version of The Running Man is not a widely respected movie...

Cape Fear has been done twice for theaters and is coming as a TV series on APPLE+...

Casino Royale (2006) is a remake of Casino Royale (1967) in name only. The 1967 version was a parody of Bond movies and did not resemble the novel at all...

The Talented Mr. Ripley has been done three times, twice in film and as a TV series on Netflix...

Who says there's no originality in Hollywood?

The original is classic late '80s action cheezball....Arnold making several post action sequence insult-to-injury quips, while Richard Dawson and Jesse Ventura ham it up big time.

Looks like the game of RM has been changed significantly, and gobs of CGI explosions and shit are part of the new iteration.

Thogh it looks moderately interesting from the trailer, I'll still wait for it on satellite.

Arnie was too heavily muscled to run much. He was a jogging man. If the new guy is leaner, then he could be a closer fit to the title.

After seeing the Critical Drinker's review, I'll be giving it a pass.

May contain spoilers.

Well. I finaly saw this movie.

It's a good movie in general.

I've seen a couple of threads posted up since I posted this one up, knocking the film.

But they do not speak of the the fundamental message, predictably.

Which is...turn them off. Because they've had their hooks in you (willfully on your part) for too long.
