What happened to Colour Sergent Frank Bourne after Rorkes Drift. Those of us who watched and loved the movie Zulu probably all enjoyed Nigel Green's representation of Colour Sergent Bourne, the epitome of the stoic Victorian British NCO. And Nigel at 6' 4" is definitely impressive in that role. However Frank Bourne was only 5" 3" tall, his nick-name was "the Kid". He was offered the Victoria Cross after Rorkes Drift but declined it and was offered a commision which he also turned down. Ten years after the initial commision offer he accepted it and eventually retired (the second time around after WWI) as a Lt Colonel. He died at age 91, one day after VE day WWII.
