I'm sorry, I just see way too much room for fraud and abuse with the Dream Act. And even if proving how long you've been here is sorted out, it would still encourage more illegal immigration, as illegal immigrants would be assured that if they just wait it out our idiot elected officials will make it worth their while.
To think that the Dream Act would entice parents to come to this country when their kids clearly do not qualify is being just a bit paranoid.
These kids did not choose to violate our laws, their parents did. To hold them responsible for what their parents did is not right. Without documentation, the best these kids can hope for is menial jobs or a life of crime. This law would make it possible for those that wanted to make something of themselves to become an asset instead a liability to the country.
The message this bill sends to those considering illegal entry is that future legislation will be not benefit you.
DREAM Act Provisions
The legislation would provide a path to conditional legal residency for undocumented immigrant students if he/she:
Was 15 years old or younger when brought to the United States
Has lived here for at least five years before enactment of law
Is of good moral character
Has earned a high school diploma or GED
Eligible students would have six years to earn permanent residency status if they:
Complete two years of higher education, or
Complete two years of military service with honorable discharge if discharged.
