What's your idea of romance?
Is it over-rated? Is it even necessary?
Or very necessary for any relationship?

Romance: being too drunk and being taken advantage of by a pack of raving wolves

Not necessarily a bad thing for some, but... romantic... ? :dunno:

romance to me is anything from the classic dinner/flowers to helping with putting on your socks & tie your shoes when your back is out.

Don Juan, Casanova, many others, in the past and today, used it as a means to an end.

and when the end was reached?

as was said in the King and I, " A man is like a honey bee and gather all he can. To fly from blossom to blossom a honey must be free. But blossom must not ever fly from bee to bee to bee."

Depends on the couple's mood. Anyone of these may work, then again it may take several of them together or none of them work.
