This is the story of a banker and his family who were out for a Sunday afternoon drive on September of 2013, when they became the target of a vicious attack. As you can see in the video, they were trying to avoid a menacing gang of bikers. In an act of desperation, the passenger tossed a plum and a bottled water container out the window at one biker who later was identified as an off duty police officer.
Rather than backing off, the biker gang chased the terrified family down a major New York highway in an attempt to get in front of the SUV and surround it. Eventually they succeeded and Mr. Lien's SUV was forced to stop in the middle of the highway.
When Mr. Lien realized the level of danger he and his family were in, he decided to escape by driving through the gang and over a motorcyclist blocking his path. The biker was paralyzed as a result. The gang claimed that was their reason for the wild chase which ended in Mr. Lien being dragged from his vehicle and badly beaten in front of his wife and 2 yr. old daughter.
A few weeks ago, 29 yr. Old Christopher Cruz plead guilty to two felonies. While he didn't participate in the beating of Mr. Lien, Cruz stopped his bike in front of the SUV in order to force it to stop. Two co-defendants pleaded guilty to 2nd degree assault and were given 5 months probation with no jail time.
NYPD Detective Wojciech Braszczok was named as one of eleven people indicted in the motorcycle attack case. He was caught on video smashing the back window of the SUV. Braszczok was indicted for gang assault and other felonies by a grand jury. The media reported that he was facing 25 years in prison. He was sentenced to only two years in the city jail.
Commenting on Mr. Lien's injuries, the ex-detective said, In Brooklyn, it's a rite of passage. People get cuts all the time.
Prosecutor Joshua Steinglass voiced outrage over Braszczok's denial of any wrongdoing. He said, To this day he doesn't believe he did anything wrong. There's no remorse.
Mr. Lien has since recovered from his injuries but the trauma his family endured from the ordeal is still fresh.
With road rage on the rise, some drivers are taking matters into their own hands. The motorist in this next video was driving down the highway when motorcyclists began to stalk her vehicle. As you will see in the video, once they saw traffic stopped up ahead she decided upon a different approach from the banker who was dragged from his car and badly beaten.
In both cases, the video tape footage reveals stalking and terrorizing random motorists on an open highway. If the courts do not get tough with these criminals, motorists will have no choice but to do whatever they must in order to protect themselves and their passengers. It's time to put a stop to road rage.
