Damn paywall so here's the meat of it.

"Although the majority of the people we surveyed said their atrial fibrillation was associated with cold ingestion, it was actually rare that eating or drinking something cold always precipitated an atrial fibrillation episode," Vinson noted.

"In other words, most people with cold drink heart were often able to eat cold food or drinks without developing symptoms of atrial fibrillation. This shows how unpredictable the condition can be and why it's been hard for some patients to identify these triggers."

I've always maintained that iced drinks are not all that good for you.

I got the notion many years ago when the water coolers at the Unit I worked at would be filled every morning at the on-site Spring House....No ice water, just cool spring water.

The Warden always claimed it would make the road gang convicts sick by drinking ice water on a hot Summer work day.

Wait a minute........the article or what you quoted of it, says it's rare cold food or drinks cause afib. So what gives???

After my first 2 cups of hot coffee in the morning, I drink ice water the rest of the day until I go to bed and have been doing that for nearly 50 years. Well......I used to drink ice tea during the day, but switched to water some years ago. All day, every day, all year round. Never been a problem. I was born with a heart murmur, and heart disease is in the family genetics. :dunno:

I'd never heard of getting afib from cold drinks, but I do know drinking something very cold when you're in high heat can cause wicked cramps, which is probably what your boss was trying to avoid.

I got those cramps once. Been sipping iced drinks ever since.
