Require mod to tell you when you’re thread-banned

But sometimes it’s not clear as to why someone is banned, and there’s no notice or explanation. Other times, posters are just horrific - making disgusting bigoted remarks in a Zone 1 thread - and they are not banned. I also see terrible flaming all the time.

If we were to be told why we are banned from a thread, we could see how rules are applied equally, or not.
Mods act on reports sent in by other members. Chances are, if you come across a reply in a Zone 1 or 2 thread that breaks the rules, someone hasn't reported it. You can do that.

Most times, people already know WHY they are being thread banned and don't need to be told. Let's say the thread is about Garcia being sent out of the USA and someone decides to bring up the subject of a hostage being mistreated in another country. The comment is ignored by nearly everyone in the thread, yet the person making it continues to repeat it. Why would someone do that KNOWING it's off topic and disrupts the thread? It has absolutely nothing to do with the opening post. A thread ban is warranted in this case and if they aren't given a warning with points, they should feel pretty damn lucky!

Seems like something like that would be a valid point: bringing up that liberals are more concerned with an illegal alien gang member than a law-abiding American citizen being tortured as a hostage. I would think that a discussion of liberals’ misplaced priorities regarding the illegal alien is very pertinent to the thread topic.

But that just shows why a brief, five-word explanation of a thread ban would be warranted. That shows that posters do NOT necessarily know why they are banned from a thread.

Thread ban notifications, when we select to notify members, go to "Alerts" - the bell shaped icon at the top of the screen.

The American citizen being tortured is off topic in the example given. If someone wants to discuss that, then that person should start a thread about it.

It's funny how you people live out your twilight years. You're a bunch of 1st graders who cry to the teacher.

If you don't want to be thread banned, and this goes for every forum member, follow the rules. It's that simple.

Some of the biggest reasons people get banned from threads are:
  • Flaming only replies
  • Disrupting the thread by trying to change the topic / off topic comments
To be honest, this happens ALL THE TIME with zero consequences. It is often selectively enforced.

Litwin is doing that in every thread he invades. The thread can be about colorful flowers and he will make it an anti-Russia thread posting large collections of X, YT and Pics.

Geez. With the stuff he posts, you'd think there was war going on or something.

When someone on a thread complains about your post, and the mod decides to ban you from the thread, shouldn’t the mod have to let you KNOW and say what rule you violated?

As it stands now, I can be participating on a thread, only to discover when I try to reply that I’ve been banned from it. No notice. No explanation.

It goes both ways. I think it is up to the mod.

“Flaming” is ill-defined.

The message I got was (as is too often the case) anonymous. And I don’t recall what I even wrote n that thread (but believe I was just following up on an observation about some weird ass teacher thing concerning PC and woke shit). A one-off one liner and “bam.”

The reason was “flaming.” I don’t believe it was flaming. On the other hand, I don’t care very much. I do think the board should more clearly define its terms.

Report those posts!

I have to laugh when I see that. You see, we have people here who do nothing but troll every thread irritating and annoying people, so these are the people most often put on ignore. Once on ignore, you cannot report their abusive posts because the ignore function does nothing but blind YOU to the same crap they keep doing all the time. And those not ignoring them don't report them, because they want to argue back at them instead.

Net effect: the worst members here likely get reported the least while these same people go on trying to manipulate other people into some action which they then can report.

Once again, another XenForo feature which creates the exact opposite of the desired effect.

That would make it tough when the troll brigade teams up against somebody. If it is based only on reports by that group, anybody could be thread banned or banned outright without violating any rule of the board.

The troll brigade. Imao.

They do tend to form in gangs though. Must be a deep seated need to belong. :itsok:
