If you are an adult and get depressed because its winter time then its time to admit yourself into a ******* mental institution because you are clearly not normal. If are grown and dont know how to occupy yourself indoors during the winter season then u are pathetic. Now I can see kids but not any who is grown

.

Only applies to the left cult, who don't EVEN need an excuse to run for the "doctor" for a script.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) has been recognized and studied since the 1980s, making it a subject of research for over 40 years. LOL, and ABC thinks this is NEWS?

Its called seasonal affective disorder SAD and its real. We see this often in places far north with short winter days and long nights. Short days cause serotonin levels to drop. Just keep the lights bright in your house.

SAD seasonal affective disorder
Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a type of depression linked to seasonal changes, typically starting in fall/winter with symptoms like low energy, sadness, and carb cravings, resolving in spring/summer, though a less common summer-onset type exists. Causes involve sunlight disruption, risk factors include distance from the equator, genetics, and being female, with treatments like light therapy, therapy, meds, and lifestyle changes helping manage it.

They have been talking that shit for decades.

Odd that though, you would think they would welcome some warmer "climate change" up north about now what with that "Polar Vortex" going on. ;)

Also the reason, vitamin D is used more in these areas.

It's a real thing. People have less exposure to sunlight in the winter so their body produces less vitamin D.

A vitamin D deficiency can cause depression and various other health problems.

Ice Fishing is the cure. ;)

This is a well known condition. People who live in dense forests suffer from it as well.

What's ridiculous is it being reported on as if it is new.

The stinkin' polar vortex skipped WA state this year. LOL, wouldn't you know it, I bought season passes for the local ski resort for the family this year and there's been virtually no snow in Nov, Dec, and Jan. Hopefully we'll get some in Feb and Mar. LMAO, the whole world is worried about Greenland and I'm not getting my money's worth of skiing in. THE INHUMANITY! WTF is the ACLU when you need them.

Not a good idea to self medicate with vitamin D though. You can overdo it. My doc prescribed it (I think it is common to do here) and it turned out that his dosage was about double what I required.

You didn't know that sunlight is actually important for mental health?

Or if not sun, at least outside air?

Okay

I am 76 y.o., and a big part of my life is getting outdoors and doing stuff outside. Golfing, biking, hiking, simple walks in the neighborhood. Ten thousand steps a day is a mantra.

This Winter has been worse than any in recent memory. No golfing, no biking (not safe with ice on the pavement), and even walking is somewhat hazardous and not worth the effort. I still go to the gym 5 days a week, but it's not the same as getting outside.

Is it any wonder that it affects our temperament?

I will be heading down to Florida (the Villages) for the months of February and March. Can't wait.

Its the lack of sunlight that lowers serotonin in your brain.

I lived in Chicago, Pittsburgh and Michigan. If you’re not willing to be active in the cold and snow it can be depressing.

My rule of thumb is that I don’t run/hike when it is below -4 degrees. 20 and above is light gear. Below 20 degrees is heavy gear.

My wife’s rule of thumb is that she doesn’t function under 65 degrees. Period.

Everyone is different.
