I had an idea that just popped into my head. The federal government owes about 37 trillion dollars which, of course means that we spent 37 trillion dollars more money than we had coming in. The federal government doesn't have a balanced budget amendment and the reality of it is we probably never will. And, even we did ever pass one, it would come with loopholes that if an emergency comes up then we can spend whatever is necessary, which I'm OK with in real emergencies.

Anyway, my idea is to transfer every single expenditure and department we can over to the state governments, most of whom DO HAVE balanced budget amendments and are forced by law to follow them. The fact is, states know more of what they need, where they need it, and how much money they need to spend for it better than the federal government does.

My idea is to basically transfer as much as we can from the federal government which does not have a balanced budget amendment to the state governments, most of whom do have balanced budget amendments and have to follow them. So, taxes would go up in the states while federal taxes would go down and the states would determine how much money they would need to spend and where to get the money from.

And red states would look exactly like poor African third world countries within 6 months.

Excellent Idea, but you need to realize that democrat states like CA and IL and NY are not fiscally responsible.

Transferring Welfare to the states would be a good start.

States could then direct unemployed to job training and available jobs.

The fact that you act like you're against it means it's a great idea that you don't want to happen. You're concern for the red states just makes me want to cry.

OF course! States have much more incentive to make sure its citizens are responsible and their kids are educated than does the Federal government who is just willing to blindly hand out money for political favors.
I'm sure the states aren't perfect either but it comes down to the original concept of why we have 50 individual states anyways. It might be more painful at first, but states could look at what is working for others and try to implement the more successul policies. Eventually it would all become more efficient and we would have better off citizens all the way around

I doubt it. Most states should be cappable of running garbage services and water systems. There is also work available for people who need jobs.

Yup, and the tree hugger states could pass all the tax hikes they wanted to save the planet and defund the police and the red states could do whatever they felt they needed and nothing more. Then the citizens of the United States could decide for themselves which states they wanted to live in.

Unemployment is already a state function.

The concept is not new. It is called federalism. One of its biggest proponents was Ronald Reagan.

Yeah, that how most republican policies work. Owning the libs is job one and damn the consequences.

Buncha idiots.

Have you looked in the mirror recently, or even over the last eight years?

"Should be" and "are" are not the same thing.

The old money from the richer states is transferring though to the states you say will look like poor third world African nations. The loss of manufacturing is a whammy. You have seen what it has done to the automobile cities. Cities like Detroit and Flint played social justice games for decades to make it worse.

That's a myth.

The top two states receiving the most Federal Government subsidies are California and New York.

When broken down by "per-person" basis, the state that receives the LEAST per person is Florida - a red state.

Talk about doomsday spirals.

Awesome. Do you have a plan for the ensuing depression your idea will cause?
