Real ID, Enhanced ID, ?! Another State money grab??

I see on the TV News recently a story about "Real ID" and "Enhanced ID", I ask is this just another State money grab at my money? Many of these ID's have Bar codes on them, this should be enough to identify any citizen.?!! Your thoughts.??

I believe this is a federal thing.

It is, but it requires every state to comply. It's been going on for years now, and it was bullshit then and it's bullshit now. I believe Florida brought its driver licenses into compliance a few years ago. It's not about $, it's about control and surveillance.

I heard this was passed shortly after 9-11 but it kept getting postponed. For whatever reason, this Trump administration wants us to do it. Is it because they are keeping track of all of us? This smells fishy. Republicans are always paranoid about the government keeping track of us but I have a feeling the Trump government wants us to get enhanced ID's for reasons we don't even know. Why would they finally decide to make us do this? Why now?

Anyways, they were making fun of stupid Americans who went and stood in lines around the block to get this enhanced ID but now the government is saying you will be able to fly if you don't have an enhanced ID. So all the idiots who stood in line did it for nothing. Plus, they should be embarrassed that they just jumped when the government asked them to. They didn't even ask how high. They just ran and got in line and waited hours.

The Real ID Act enforcement deadline, initially set for 2008, has been repeatedly postponed and now comes into effect on May 7, 2025. While some states were initially set to have a longer period to comply, the final date for full enforcement has been fixed. Beginning May 7, 2025, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and other federal agencies will no longer accept state-issued driver's licenses and identification cards that do not meet the security standards established by the Real ID Act.

They passed this back in 2000s after 911. Thy kept putting it off because it was a bad id. Now they say you can still fly with a normal id.

I’ve made more than my share of stupid and improper decisions over my half century of life. In most cases I’d have saved myself a lot of trouble and consequences if I’d listened to those around me who knew better.
