Yeah, and thats the sad thing, they can be good in many other ways, but get a pass for this because they are young. I was raised on the Brooklyn Waterfront during the Depression era. Anyone who saw the movie, On The Waterfront, has a vague idea of what that was like. Prison confinement on the other hand is a relatively private experience which is costly, time-consuming, and tends to harden and further corrupt an individual.

In the example of the young attacker in the topic video, I believe an effective punishment for her would be to patiently and methodically administer a severe and vicious public beating to her. One she will never forget.

Such poetic justice might alter the presently negative direction of her life.

Something along those lines, but I think pain is not necessary. The thing these kids value the most is their pride, which drives them to a lot of these acts. Some form of humiliation, but there are public things that could be done most likely without inflicting physical harm. however, I dont think that type of public humiliation would be permisible unless the perpetrators were white.

Most blacks are not guilty of violent crimes. They simply have an over achieving quarter of their population and a horrid top 2% that commit the vast majority of their violent crimes. And again, every ethnicity has gone through a criminal phase trying to adapt to American freedom, from the Irish, Jews, Italians you name the group. Prison isn't the answer for people like this. It will only make her worse in the long run. We screw up badly with the type of punishment we use for many crimes. In this case, the girl should not receive any prison time at all, but she should receive ten lashes at a public lashing. This girl will probably look at prison as a badge of honor, but being scarred for life might be a different story. It's not just about corporal punishment but also about shaming the person.
