In another in a long line of "isolated incidents" which are in no way indicative of the attitudes of the rest of the cops, and only apply to this one cop, who would have been fired if he had not resigned, racism was exposed.
So here is the story. Corporal Pappas of the Pinellas County Sheriffs Department was being investigated for carrying on an affair with another Sheriff's employee. During that investigation, they found lots of sexist and racist material on his phone. When confronted with it, he resigned.

These were sent and received while he was on, and off duty. The spokesperson for the Department was quick to point out that this was not representative of the rest of the deputies.
But wait a minute. Cops tend to be friends with other cops. Are you expecting me to believe that Corporal Pappas didn't send any of those offensive things to other cops? Are you saying that none of the other cops sent any to him?
The key to Fiction is the ability of the writer to suspend disbelief to get someone into the story. This is why the Jason Bourne movies are so good. Despite the fact that in reality the CIA couldn't manage to find their asses if you gave them a stick with a mirror on it.
The ability to suspend disbelief and accept that none of these offensive things were sent to or received by other cops is a little beyond me. Ok, it's a lot beyond me. But we are supposed to believe it. Or something.
