I am an election worker for a small rural township that has a roll of 268 registered voters. During several of the previous elections, the voter turnout has usually averaged about 150-180 people. I worked the first shift from 7AM until 2 PM, and I was the one registering new voters or voters who had recently moved to the township. By the end of my shift, 175 out of the 268 registered voters had voted, 23 absentee votes had been received, and I had registered 42 new voters. All of the new voters had the proper proofs of residence and identification.
My wife and I went back to the polling place this evening to vote. The total number had grown to 233 voters casting ballots, and there are still 2-1/2 hours before the polls close.
That's quite a turnout.
