Serbia was bombed because it refused to accept the Rambouillet Agreement, refused to sign it. NATO and the emasculated members under US domination, then proceeded to illegally bomb out former ally.
Serbia was an ally during WW2, the Serbs refused to collaborate with the Nazis and were bombed by the Nazis.
The Serbs like the Jews were subject to an extermination campaign at the hands of a Fascist Croatia under the maniacal Ante Pavelic - war criminal who escaped the clutches of the British.
Croatia became subject to fanatical form of fascism and aligned with Hitler, the Ustashe were the perpetrators of brutality and torture so severe that even hardened SS guards were shocked at the depravity.
The Ustashe setup concentration camps and murdered Serbs, Jews, Gypsies and other minorities. They rampaged through the countryside attacking villages and carrying out crimes that to this day rank at the top of the list of atrocities carried out during WW2. The Ustashe developed mobile gas chambers.
The Serbs were bombed in 1999 as the final phase of the Western driven breakup of Yugoslavia, to make way for economic investment by the West.

It's known as "Appendix B" and is widely discussed.
