It would be interesting to see the demographics behind the crypto currency surge. I have a sense that the average age of people investing in these 'coins' is much younger than people who invest in stocks and bonds. I have also read that the Chinese and Japanese are the biggest investors in BC and ETH but that was just one article so take it with a grain of salt.
I've invested and traded stocks for decades and one of the weirdest things for me to get used to is these currencies trade 24/7. As for the lesser known coins seem like penny stocks to me which can certainly produce high yields with smaller initial investments but have much higher risk and failure rates.
