He is the President.

You may not agree with the man, you may not even respect him, but it is the office, the title, that should garner the respect more than the man.

At least that was how I was raised...

And, of course, Obama is the Commander-in-Chief and Mr. Hackney a soldier...

so synthy thinks people who can't stand to meet the president have no respect

another thread fail

The photo is a contrast in opposites.

A younger man full of entitlement and narcissism juxtaposed with an older man who understands patriotism and true public service.

The former is tacky; the latter has class.

Cripes, you'd think Obama could at least help the guy up some, give him an arm to steady himself with.

Would be nice if the man Obama showed respect to the office.
How many times has he taken his stand up schtick on the road?...
Doing his best stand up material, going for the yuks.

What, treat him like an invalid? Yeah, right, the old soldier would really like that...not.

He's got ahold of the President's hand, I'm sure that's enough assistance for him to get to his feet for a few moments.

There is absolutely nothing "tacky" about President Obama. Gracious and respectful would be a better description of his manner in this photo. And what you call narcissism is simply self-confidence. Self-confidence that would be perfectly acceptable were he a president of your choosing.

Mr. Hackney should serve as a reminder to Obama as to what exactly he represents.

And a reminder to his opponents about who exactly they're speaking to.

Well said indeed.

Totally agree with your first statement. Not sure what you mean by the second.

The President is the figurehead of the greatest country in the world. Yet politicians make fun of his middle name and question his citizenship for political reasons. That's incredibly disrespectful.

Until someone finds some real evidence supporting such. I agree that making fun of the presidents middle name or place of birth is unproductive.

We should be working towards finding a middle ground.
