He is from Africa. It is only natural to call him an African American. What else would he call himself? Who knew there was any exclusivity to being African?

As you can see from the bottom graph, the rate goes up and down over time, largely in response to economic conditions. It was lowest during the 1960s and 1970s and during the late 1990s. It jumped up again, last time, predictably, during the Bush recession

I have explained it. It is because of the rising disparity between the haves and have nots. While the 1% has continued to see economic gains, the rest of us have not. Unions have largely been wiped out, high paying jobs have fled overseas. In 1960, the three largest private sector employers were high wage union companies: GM, Ford, and ATT. Today, the three largest private sector employers are low wage non-union companies: Walmart, McDonalds, and Yum! Brands.

It is not nonsense. It is a fact. 22% of Americans lived in poverty in 1959, prior to the war on poverty. While the current rate of 15% is still higher than we'd like, it is still lower than it was in previous generations.

A blanket statement. A 7% reduction over a 56 year time period is pretty much a failure.

And you think there's any chance that poverty would be lower if there were no Medicaid, or foodstamps. or housing assistance, or educational assistance, or energy assistance, etc?

Describe ONE plausible scenario that would have led to a lower poverty rate by now if none of those programs had ever been created.
