Professor Fired Over Charlie Kirk Post Wins $500,000 and Gets Job Back

‘Darren Michael, an associate professor of acting and directing at Austin Peay State University (APSU) in Tennessee, has resumed his post following his removal over a social media post related to Charlie Kirk last fall, the university told Newsweek in an email.

Local media WKRN News 2 reported that in addition to resuming his tenured position, ASPU will pay him $500,000. ASPU Chief Strategic Communication Officer Ginna Holleman confirmed to Newsweek that Michael and ASPU “reached a settlement agreement,” but did not provide details on the matter.

Shortly after reports of Kirk’s assassination, Michael posted on a social media a screenshot of a widely circulated Newsweek article from 2023 that quoted Kirk noting that gun deaths in exchange for the preservation of Second Amendment rights are part of America's reality.

ASPU is a public university in Clarksville, Tennessee, with around 11,000 students enrolled.’

The First Amendment protects the right of individuals to free speech and expression, even if some perceive that speech as offensive.

Conservatives aren’t at liberty to silence those who express facts and the truth conservatives don’t like.

Stop shoveling that horse manure will ya.

Good for him.

Lefties, do not forget this.

People should not be fired over social media posts.

Apply that shit to everyone.

Well, he favors killing people for what they say. I wonder if he would feel the same if he were the target?
Reason #239 why we should never send our children to colleges where they can be influenced and brainwashed by sick Leftists who hate America and want Western civilization destroyed.

This is exactly why they murdered Kirk.

He was a conservative voice disrupting the communist brain washing farms so prevalent in our university system currently.

Given that the GOP flew the Zionist Flag at its convention last year, it's no wonder they happily ignore constitutional principles.

The first amendment protects us from all government because of the 14th amendment.
A school still isn’t the government.

They have the right to fire people for making disturbing comments.

It means that the position is a property right protected under the Bill of Rights against the Government as the Bill of Rights now extends to state and municipal entities.
Oh really, is that why Dem cities and states are always passing gun restrictions?

They all have a right to free speech, just as Kirk did. I have been saying that forever. People had a right to not call people their chosen pronouns, but many lost their jobs over that.

Each side sees free speech as limited, a true American would not just pick one side over the other. You do that all the time. You aren’t really for all free speech, you are for your free speech.
