It was a Northern Major General who had the gall to go all the way to Texas to tell them they couldn't have black servants any more. Texans had to fire all their black servants and those poor black folks had to go out into the world and get jobs to support themselves.
Many of them said "Fuck this", so they migrated way up North where they could get free shit and wouldn't have to work any more.
So actually, Juneteenth was a Texas thing. But then Biden made it a national holiday so government employees could fuck off on that day.
