Internet pioneer Vint Cerf says it is time to start preserving the vast quantities of digital data before they are lost forever


Would this include all the pictures I have stored on my hard disk?

Good advice. We all know what can happen to e-mails ....poof!!! Gone.

In a thousand years, people will have no trouble decoding a .gif or .jpg file. There's no reason to print anything out for archival reasons. For archiving, making multiple types of software backups is much more sensible. Your house might burn down, but the cloud won't.

I was surprised that Google should say this. One of their apps is Picasa, a image storage program.
