President Trump's speech Wednesday night could fairly be called the "Rorschach test on Iran" speech because people across the policy spectrum are interpreting the speech to support whatever policy position they want the Trump administration to adopt on Iran. I think the truth of what President Trump was trying to convey was that the war is going to last another two to three weeks because the administration is close to achieving their goals and then they are going to stop the military campaign no matter what the status of a deal with the Iranian regime is! I think President Trump is following his instincts here his gut is telling him the war is unpopular people are really hurting with the higher gas prices and if this continues which a protracted war with Iran it could result in these higher fuel prices metastasizing throughout the economy and cause a significant increase in overall inflation which tends to have a self-propelling momentum which could result in a severely painful period of inflation. I rarely advocate this type of individualism but on the Iran issue President Trump needs adopt his unique trait of being his own person no matter the scope of his opposition and follow what he essentially laid out tonight which is in two to three weeks just declare victory on Iran and end the military campaign! If President Trump essentially does this and doesn't commit war crimes over the next two to three weeks I think by election day this year the economic negative repercussions of this war will have largely subsided and I don't think the political fallout will be that bad for him and the Republicans this election cycle! Seriously though President Trump needs to find that "heavy on tariffs is the course America needs to follow" persona and attach it securely to himself because he is going to be hit big-time on the political left and surprisingly big-time on the right "rank and file" Republicans are going to rake him over the coals for leaving Iran without getting any concessions from the Iranian regime. Largely, the only thing the President will have is the knowledge that practically he made the best and wisest choice!

A couple observations on President Trump's speech I think if Trump doesn't go after Iran's electricity generating capacity after the bombing stops Iran will reopen the Strait of Hormuz for the reason the President mentioned it is in the Iranian government's best economic interests to do so and they will need the money; however, if Trump does a Putin on Iran's electricity generating industry the Iranian regime will be out for vengeance and that means continuing to be a gate keeper on the Strait of Hormuz. Frankly, that was really alarming tonight when President Trump said he would bomb Iran into the stone age by specifically targeting Iran's electricity generating plants; Iran's winters involve temperatures falling below freezing at night and Iran's summers involve temperatures rising above 100 degrees Fahrenheit, Trump destroying Iran's electricity generating system would result in a lot of Iranian civilians dying from freezing and heat stroke! Straight up if President Trump follows through on this threat to destroy Iran's electricity generating industry through bombing after President Trump's second term America should honor an arrest warrant from the Hague and turn Donald Trump over to the Hague for prosecution of a war crime here! Moreover, U.S. pilots and their commanders should refuse such orders to bomb these electricity generating plants in Iran on the basis that it is immoral and illegal because in part it is tantamount to murdering Iranian civilians!

One significant mistake I think President Trump is poised to make is not trying to bomb out of existence the mountain at Isfahan where most of Iran's 400 kilograms of sixty percent enriched uranium is widely believed to be entombed. President Trump's critics on both the political left and the political right are latching onto the fact that the Trump administration is leaving it there for the Iranian regime to recover it and use it build nuclear bombs! President Trump's response to this criticism is really weak where he says we can monitor it through satellites and if they try to dig it up we will bomb them; I bet the population of Israel is just jumping for joy with this plan what President Trump do you think the Iranian regime will do when you send your barrage of missiles on the Iranian regime for this transgression that is right President Trump the Iranian regime will send a barrage of missiles at the State of Israel, ordinary Israelis President Trump don't want to live under this cloud you need to come up with a better plan! Secretary Pete Hegseth announced recently that the U.S. is using some of America's B52's to conduct bombing runs in Iran. This plane holds the solution to this problem President Trump. Use the B52H to carpet bomb the mountain at Isfahan that is currently entombing Iran's enriched uranium stockpile and wipe that mountain off the face of the earth. The B52H was used to carpet bomb in the mountains of Afghanistan to good effect. The B52H can hold 51 -500 lb bombs or 30- 1000 lb bombs (per the U.S. military). The bomb crater radius on a 500 pound bomb is 25 feet and 8.5 feet deep (Project on Defense Alternatives) but dropping many at the same time has a multiplying effect. During the Vietnam war B52's were permitted to carpet bomb within three quarters of a mile from U.S. troops so the targeting can be pretty accurate and the strategy to be used involves merely to continue hitting this mountain with B 52 carpet bombing for two to three weeks if need be. Even if it doesn't succeed at least the Trump administration will have the defense that it made a responsible and best effort to remove this critical element for producing nuclear bombs out of the Iranian regime's hands! Although B52's have the capability to do low level bombing readily as low as 1000 feet I would try not to go below 15,000 feet and I would use two three plane wings of panes like F16's to protect the B52's from being shot down just in case the Iran military is able to scrape together a SAM system and fire off a missile the one level of fighters would fly under the B52 and continue on the bomb run (buying time for the B52 to take evasive action) and the second wing would fly above the first wing under the B52 and as the B52 takes evasive action the second wing would follow the B52 and act as a shield taking the missile hit if the missile somehow makes it to the evading B52's location. Assuming the 400 kilograms of sixty percent enriched uranium is nuclear dust from last June's bombing isn't prudent last years bombing targeted the entrances to the mountain complex and since that bombing the Iranian government took steps to fill the bomb craters with a lot of dirt to protect the openings from further damage from future bombings why would the Iranian government do that if the Uranium stockpile was blown up and was not intact in containers that could be recovered?

Yeah, a video and a few poignant sentences would be much better.
You Sir, have exceeded the TL/DR threshold. Therefore DR.
If=TL?
Then=DR

So, Modus Ponens then?

Modus Ponens
Not necessarily.
More like
If X>11
Y=0
X=post length (variable integer 1-11)
Y=interest in post. 0 for negative, 1 for positive.
If X≥10, Y=1.

The higher gas prices in the USA are not connected to the war. IF anybody tells you otherwise, they lied to you.

In the case of war fighting, while your ideas may be theirs, theirs has the most merit. Partly it is their business and they know the logistics.

President Trump's speech Wednesday night could fairly be called the "Rorschach test on Iran" speech

I thought it a terrible speech, I was very disappointed, because it spent all of its time telling me stuff I already know while not answering any of the questions I had.

It left me wondering what the point was in airing the 18 minute message that the whole country needed to stop to hear, to tell us why gas is up and that it should be back to normal pretty soon?

Trump looked exhausted, and I really didn't need him to tell me that Iran are bad people or that NATO sucks.

The question of WHY NOW was not answered.

I thought the speech pretty poorly written. It failed on many levels, most of all to really tell me anything not already covered in prior pressers, plus it failed in that Trump looked rather stiff and dry in reading it that I'm sure some pundits will use as proof of Trump's fading out.

It'll be fine.
