Here is my generalization on the "big deal".

For mainline protestants the outrage is less about the Bible itself but rather exemplifies Trump being an affront to their Christian belief in social justice. As for evangelical protestants, who are quite accepting of Trump, I've seen quotes of their distaste which were related directly on their view of the Bible, believing that for Trump it was no more than a prop which displayed a lack of reverence it deserves.

Perhaps for some the objection or "big deal" can more easily relate to how they feel when players kneel during the playing of the nation anthem. A practice more acceptable for the social justice conscience mainline protestants than evangelical protestants.

This is a moment in which the country needs a leader with great, sincere empathy.
