Thank you Barack
These phony expensive, kangaroo court- like, *cough* "investigations" are detracting from the real issue: Republicans sustained & prolonged war on America
Repubs need to get crackin' on tax reform and stop w/ the carnival barking, sideshows
Obama hits GOP for 'phony scandals' - The Hill's On The Money
Agreed, but you're missing the point of what the Republicans are doing.
The point of their on unprecedented filibustering and obstructionism is to make it seem like government can't do anything. This is designed to give average Americans contempt for the political process. This makes it easy for Republicans to run against government.
Remember, the two major electoral platforms for the Republican Party are terrorism and government incompetence. The GOP wins when government is a mess and terrorists are attacking us. Therefore, you should look for an increase in both of those things.
The last thing they want is for a government program to actually Improve the lives of Americans. Look at Social Security and Medicare. Because of these incredibly successful programs, Republicans can't win in Florida without promising their senior voters that they will protect these programs.
As long as average Americans are mistrustful of Washington, than the general apathy will be so high that corporations will not have to compete with citizens for government resources.
You need to study the lobbying process to understand what corporations and the wealthy one from government. They most certainly do not want a small timid government. They want a dynamic advocate for their interests. They want strong patent protection for their products. They want strong military support for their overseas supply chains. They want subsidies for their research and development; and they want bailout protection for their risk.
Republican voters have been lied to about the corporate relationship to the state. They have been strategically placed in a Pre-Reagan bubble where corporations are still persecuted by big government. However, the naïve Republican voter doesn't understand that corporations now fully own government. They own both parties. And they don't want to share government resources with the great bulk of Americans.
Again, as long as the great bulk of Americans don't trust government, then corporations won't have to compete for government resources with them. It's a ******* game: corporations and the wealthy pay talk radio to turn Americans against government. Then, in the back of the house, they sidle up to government through the lobbying process In order to slowly and quietly bleed it of resources. They do this by turning government into an ATM machine which hands out no-bid contracts, subsidies and bail outs.
