The problem with this film is that it works on the premise that there were no abortions before 1973.

Reality. By 1973, women were already getting abortions in doctor's offices because the doctors themselves were ignoring the law and no one was enforcing it. SCOTUS just legalized reality.

Hells bells, Romania tried to ban abortion and failed miserably. And that was a communist dictatorship with a secret police force.

How about looking at realistic ways of reducing the need for abortions instead of the personal responsibility mantras of the right wing because those aren't working.

To this liberal, aborting a child you cannot afford to carry to term or to raise IS taking personal responsibility. More than 70% of women say that financial considerations are the primary reason for getting an abortion.

Countries with free birth control, mandatory sex education in high school, universal health care and mandated maternity leave all have lower rates of abortion than the US.

If you're really serious about reducing abortions, you'd be advocating for these things too.

Right wingers oppose increases in the minimum wage, and other anti-poverty measures. The poor are getting poorer. And abortion is the answer the poor have to deal with unwanted pregnancies.

Calling such abortions a matter of convenience, like these women came to this decision casually, trivializes the issues that working poor women deal with on a day to day basis.

You don't care about these women or their families. You don't care about the babies, once they've been born either. If you did, things like subsidized day care, family leave and minimum wage would matter to you.

No--we have social right wing nut cases right now on this board--that are continually complaining about insurers paying for prescription birth control pills--while at the same time they are adamantly opposed to abortion--sometimes even in the instance of rape or incest.

You can't have your cake and eat it too, but there are several members of this board that believe they can.

There is a television reality show on television right now--can't remember the name--that has actually REDUCED the numbers of single mothers in this country--just by showing them how very difficult it is to raise a child by themselves. It's working. That's education versus some right wing nut case up there banging the drum on family values that they're not listening too. And some on this board would deny these same women access to birth control pills? This is a prescription drug--there is no FREE access to it. And they are the overwhelmingly preferred method of contraception.
