There is no greater pleasure than to be a father to my son;
There is more to teach than cooking, sewing, ironing and being self sufficient;
It is more than getting an education and succeeding in one's profession;
It is the unseen work, the inside job: developing principles to live by and never compromising them, exercising fidelity to your relationships, keeping those who enrich your life close and protecting yourself from those who wish to do you harm; emotionally, physically or spiritually, but most important knowing the difference and moving on.
I was approached this week by three people in his school, the Principal, his teacher and another teacher, independently from one another, they related a story of how he refused to leave the side of a boy who has emotional problems, how he encouraged him to perform in the band, how he supported the boy when he was on stage by sitting next to him and how very important it was to the that child who was lead by my son. They said he made a significant difference in that boy's life.
That is the best Father's day gift I could have ever have hoped for. These are his foot steps to manhood, his legacy.
