Other than an expectorant, I am not one to take much medication. It has been a long time since I was ill so they tend to drag on.

Same here. I was sick once this year with a bad cold. I only took expectorant and pain pills for the sore throat and headache. It started out very badly and lasted just 2 weeks. About the regular time for a cold. I might only have one cold a year, and often none. But I live in a warm, dry climate.
