Political Compass Test - TAKE IT!!!

Every year or two, this stupid test resurfaces on forums.

It's one of those things that is supposed to convince Libertarians they are mainstream.

Do you have two arms? So do Libertarians!!!

Do you like ice cream? So do Libertarians!!!!

The test is a giant lie of omission. It does not ask, for example, "I believe crack cocaine should be legal and as available as beer."

It does not ask, "I believe the Food and Drug Administration should be eliminated."

It does not ask, "Our military should be shrunk down to the size of a cub scout troop."

If Libertarians were honest and asked the questions which distinguish them from everyone else who likes ice cream, they would quickly discover they are literally off the chart from everyone else.

Ive come to the conclusion that you are the angriest person on this board. There simply isnt a thread in which you can participate without whining and insulting others.

It's called being a skeptic. There is a serious lack of critical thinking here.

I prefer the term asshole. You're too serious ALL THE TIME.

You act as if we're making policy here.

Here is a more accurate test to see how Libertarian you are.

Answer "Strongly Disagree", "Disagree", "Agree", or "Strongly Agree" to the following Libertarian beliefs:

We oppose all laws at any level of government requiring registration of, or restricting, the ownership, manufacture, or transfer or sale of firearms or ammunition.

We support repeal of laws that impede the ability of any person to find employment, such as minimum wage laws, so-called “protective” labor legislation for women and children, & governmental restrictions on the establishment of private day-care centers. We deplore government-fostered forced retirement, which robs the elderly of the right to work. We oppose all government welfare, relief projects, and “aid to the poor” programs.

No labor laws, no Social Security, no Medicare, no food stamps, etc.

We should replace harmful government agencies like the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) with more agile, free-market alternatives.

If the US were to pursue a policy of defending its own borders while avoiding foreign intervention, we could realistically reduce our defense budget to as little as $125 billion over the next five years.

Source: Libertarian Party on Defense

We favor the repeal of all laws creating “crimes” without victims, such as the use of drugs for medicinal or recreational purposes.

Eliminate the Federal Reserve: [ame=http://www.amazon.com/End-The-Fed-Ron-Paul/dp/B006J3V150/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1342640332&sr=8-1]End the Fed[/ame]

Pollution of other people’s property is a violation of individual rights. Strict liability, not arbitrary government standards, should regulate pollution. We demand the abolition of the Environmental Protection Agency.

No environmental regulations. Source: Libertarian Party on Environment

We call for the repeal of the Occupational Safety and Health Act. This law denies the right to liberty and property to both employer and employee, and it interferes in their private contractual relations.

Source: National Platform of the Libertarian Party

We oppose all so-called "consumer protection" legislation which infringes upon voluntary trade, and call for the abolition of the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Source: 1972 Libertarian Party Platform - LPedia

We advocate the abolition of the Federal Aviation Administration, which has jeopardized safety by arrogating to itself a monopoly of safety regulation and enforcement. We call for privatizing the air traffic control system and transferring the FAA's other functions to private agencies.

Source: 1992 National Platform of the Libertarian Party - Critiques Of Libertarianism

We advocate the abolition of the Food and Drug Administration and particularly its policies of mandating specific nutritional requirements and denying the right of manufacturers to make non-fraudulent claims concerning their products.

I believe this will give you are more accurate assessment of your Libertarian tendencies.

If you think stupid, you vote stupid, and you get what you deserve.

I'm shocked. SHOCKED!! Well not that shocked.

So now where do you fit on the Libertarian chart?

A country without child labor laws, or labor laws of any kind, or Social Security or Medicare. A country without the FAA or the FDA. A country without gun laws or environmental regulations. A country where every drug is legal. A country with a massively reduced defense posture. A country without an EPA, OSHA, or consumer protection laws. A country without a central bank.

Basically, a country where we are all living on Tom Jefferson's farm.

Do you understand why that test is stupid now? It doesn't take "guts" to take it. It takes a brain to see through it.

I agree with very minimal labor laws.

Social Security or Medicare. A country without the FAA or the FDA.

All should be abolished!

A country without gun laws

Excepting the Second Amendment, absolutely!

environmental regulations.

I don't support FEDERAL environmental restrictions but do think they are appropriate on a more localized level.

A country where every drug is legal.

Yeah, I should be allowed to poison myself in any manner I like!

A country with a massively reduced defense posture.

If it were all about defense, we would not need such a massive expenditure.

A country without an EPA

I already answered that.

If I want to work in an unsafe environment it is nobody's fault but mine.

or consumer protection laws.

Yeah, what a waste of our resources. Consumers should protect themselves. Stupid people get what they deserve.

A country without a central bank.

Absolutely, abolish the fed and hang Bernanke for the traitor he is.

Do you understand why that test is stupid now?

The only stupidity I found in this thread was this idiotic litany of questions that you have posed here.

The Questionnaire said:
A significant advantage of a one-party state is that it avoids all the arguments that delay progress in a democratic political system.

So really, how does one answer that statement?

Certainly a one party system or dictatorship avoids the delays that a democratic system may have. And that is advantageous for those in power. That doesn't mean that one necessarily agrees with form of government even if one agrees that it is true.

You answer: "I highly disagree."

Unless you like what they have in Cuba.

But I agree that it is advantageous for a one-party system, even though I disagree with a one-party system.

You answer it logically.....as you just did. Answering it emotionally like Too Alive here leads you to say stupid things.

Really?

Comparing Cuba to a one-party system is stupid? :eusa_eh:

Tell me more about their democratic elections and non-socialist/communist candidates. I'm all ears.

Do you have two arms? So do Libertarians!!!

The test is a giant lie of omission. It does not ask, for example, "I believe crack cocaine should be legal and as available as beer."

It does not ask, "Our military should be shrunk down to the size of a cub scout troop."

If Libertarians were honest and asked the questions which distinguish them from everyone else who likes ice cream, they would quickly discover they are literally off the chart from everyone else.

I'm not even sure what would lead you to this conclusion.

Is it the Nolan Chart itself?

Or do you feel that the questions are slanted in a way that makes everyone look libertarian?

I would say it's your last point. I got the same impression myself.

Oh, the last time I took this test I was on the center (horizontal) line. I've crossed into the Libertarian area much more.

Some of the questions were odd. What's with #4: Our race has many superior qualities, compared with other races. wtf? Who are they even talking about??

I believe it was originally put out by libertarians to do just that. You can word questions in such a way that just about anyone would say, "I don't want that", and prove anything you want to prove.

The original is still online. Only ten questions!

Advocates for Self Government

Here's how I come out on that one.
