Bodycam Footage Shows Fatal Police Shooting Of Justin Robinson

Body camera footage of the fatal police shooting of Justin Robinson, a 26-year-old Black man who served as a Violence Interrupter in D.C., has been released, per FOX 5 DC.

Robinson, 26, was shot and killed on September 1 as D.C. police were responding to a report about a car crash at a McDonald's on Marion Barry Avenue.

When police responded to the scene, officers found Robinson unconscious in his car in the drive-thru with a gun in his lap. Officers said when Robinson started to wake up, they asked him to put the weapon down repeatedly.

At one point during the encounter, police said Robinson attempted to grab an officer's gun, prompting police to open fire. Robinson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Once again we see the police murder another American citizen. The bodycam shows it all. Robinson never tried to grab anyones gun. We don't need to see more to put it in context. There is not anything more to the story.

The excuses must end.

Law enforcement needs a housecleaning.

Can't tell anything from that with the officer being in front of the cam....and very little view inside the car when he's not

IM2 How about we make a law that says black on black crime should never be investigated or litigated by cops or the courts?... then tell us how you feel about defunding police...

Okay, some points, pending further evidence.

It looks like he crashed his car into the McDonalds, and was passed out. But I'm not seeing an airbag deployment, nor does the damage to the car look that great.

Assuming he was unconscious from a crash, maybe he was disoriented when he started to wake up.

If he was disoriented from drugs or alcohol, that would be another issue.

You can't tell from that shot whether he went for the gun or not.

Overall, it seems the cops are very tenous in resolving the situation, they wander around the car for like ten minutes before they do anything.

Can't blame racism for this one. I saw several black officers and one appeared to be Asian.

Poor decisions can get ya killed in many ways. I guess being totally wasted with a gun in your lap is one of them. DC is lucky the guy didn't kill anyone with his car on the way to the drive thru. There wasn't enough detail in the video to pass judgement on the officers actions, you don't know what he was seeing below the camera's line of sight. Of course with race baiters like you, the police are never justified.

Wrong. The police had been there for 30 minutes with the guy blackedoutin his car. The poor decision was mde by the police. They shoud do time for making that poor decision.

Oh right, because the officer created the situation, tell me race baiter, how many drugs did the deceased have in his system? Healthy, sober people don't just black out, especially while handling a gun. Hell even the woman behind him was drunk, appears a lot of people in DC make poor decisions. But I guess if you're going to do shit like that, Marion Barry Avenue is the right place to be.

D.C. is a black city with a black government.

Sorry pal, but you don't get to try making excuses for this. The police had been there for 30 minutes. They had plenty of time to assess the sitution. The police made a bad decision and that decision cost a man his life. Police need to be imprisoned for making these kinds of decisions when the evidence warrants it.

If the guy woke up and went for his gun, then the officers were justified.

If he didn't, there might be some criminal liability.

I can't tell either way from the video.

Your assumptions and speculation are noted. The fact is you weren't there seeing what that officer saw. And you have never and will never walk in his shoes. So aren't you doing exactly what you accuse whites of, when it comes to the black experience?

Wrong. I watched a news show that discussed the case with the family members and their lawyer. The police had been there for 30 minutes and there were some strange requests made by police prior to the shooting that leaves their motives and behavior in question.

I agree, thanks to some of the over caution, it looks like they had five cop cars and an ambulance there.

Back in the old days, they'd have just dragged him out of the car and rousted him.

In fact, I recall back in the 1990's, when I used to live in Cicero, there was this dirtbag (white) who was passed out in the gangway next to my house. One leg up over the fence, passed out and moaning. He was creepy-looking, with spiderweb tattoos on his elbows and a scraggly beard.

So I called the Cicero Cops, and the cop went over and just started kicking him (gently) until he woke up.

Then the guy was pissed at me for calling the cops, to which I replied, "Dude, you were passed out, wasn't sure if you were injured or not." The Cop added a bunch of people called to complain, not just me. (not sure if that was true or not).

Then he wandered north, figured out where he was and left.

These days, they'd have probably called out half the police force and an ambulance. In fact, that is exactly what they did when I had a similar scenario in 2018. (Albeit this was a smaller town with a lower crime rate, they were probably just bored.)

But the key thing isn't what they did to try to secure the scene, which is probably procedure. The question is, did the victim reach for a gun or point it at them.

Run along hypocrite, what slip and fall lawyers have to say to bolster a case for a hefty settlement to line their own pockets is irrelevant. And the families were coached by those lawyers that have a financial interest. We see it all the time.

The driver's seat was reclined. There was no damage to the McDonalds that I could see, so the front-end damage was probably from a previous collision. He had a pistol in his lap in violation of DC law "Open carry is not allowed in District of Columbia, except by law enforcement officers, military servicemembers, and security professionals while in the performance of their official duties.". He was very likely either drunk or stoned out of his mind to recline the seat and take a nap in an active drive thru. That's reasonable cause for the cops to believe that he was a danger to himself or others. He refused to comply with the instructions to put his hands up and lowered his right hand to his lap where the gun was. He was probably too stoned or drunk and confused to even understand the cop's instructions. The shooting looked like a good shoot to me. The only alternative I can think of would be to shoot out a window with a beanbag round if the DC police carry them and HOPE that the driver didn't shoot anyone by reflex. It was a no-win situation for the cops which is probably why they waited so long to approach the car and give the driver instructions.

In your expert opinion, what the hell should they have sone? Let the guy sleep it off while blocking the drive thru? He was openly armed in violation of DC law and obviously not in sound mind.

I would have to agree. Pending other evidence, this looks like a good shoot.

And I've been very critical of other cases where cops really were out of line.

Oh...so his family members and their lawyer said it was a bad shooting? I take it they are filing a lawsuit against the city?

It appears that way. Sane people can watch the video and see that the police were wrong. Others who have probems are going to try bringing up scenarios where the police had the right to shoot.
