Frankly, I always had more need for a milling machine anyway--- needs for turning stock in a lathe was much less often.
And with a rotary table, dividing engine and a few other things, you can do a lot of circular and radiused work on a mill anyway.

That is so true. I made a lot of my own rifle barrels, so I used my lathe a lot.

My space was always rather limited by what I could fit through my doorways into my basement. Had I the room, it would have been nice to have a horizontal mill and a broaching machine, but you can do quite a bit with just a good lathe--24"-48" centers, an R8 mill or two, and a solid drill press. The basics.

Yup. I have a dedicated workshop so space wasn't an issue. But I had to be able to do the maintenance work myself because I am a long way out of town!

Been on my TEOTWAWKI list for a while, but I'm not sure I can repair the overhead milling chuck. It is currently locked up.

The metal lathe and auto-knife does work.

They were asking a hundred, but today was ½ off.

If not, the motor and the dual speed pulley stack sets get me close to breaking even.

Cool. Good luck. I'm envious of any lathe-related acquisitions. I want one myself, but don't know much about them. I hope you can get yours working. If so, keep us updated.

Sounds like it might be time for a Superzilla soak followed by heating parts up hot with a torch then beating them loose with a copper mallet until loose!
