Five-year-old Phoebe Jonchuck was alive early Thursday when she hurtled 62 feet from her father's arms to the dark waters of Tampa Bay, where a search crew found her lifeless body hours later.

But for years before that horrible morning, child protective investigative records show, she was living in a home full of strife. Beginning in 2012, specialists from the Hillsborough Sheriff's Office received multiple reports of problems between Phoebe's parents, John Jonchuck Jr. and Michelle Kerr.

Shortly after midnight Wednesday, Jonchuck, 25, drove Phoebe to the top of the Dick Misener Bridge in St. Petersburg, pulled her from the back seat of his PT Cruiser, and dropped her over the railing, according to authorities. An off-duty St. Petersburg police officer, gun drawn, was standing behind Jonchuck, telling him to stay in the car. Authorities confirmed Friday that Phoebe was alive when she fell.

When I read things like this, I always wonder why they don't just give their kids up for adoption or see if a different family member wants to raise their kids?

Why must it resort to murder ?

I will never, ever understand. Makes me so nauseous to hear about it. Maybe throw him off a bridge as well? Or dangle him upside down for days over the bridge he threw his daughter from.

Do you have any theories as to why people who do this don't opt to give their kids to foster care?

There's so many people out there who can;t have kids who would love to love these kids, it just makes no sense to me.

That guy is seriously deranged looking.

Unfortunately, more times than not, there is a custody battle, or child support battle from what I see, or an untreated or undiagnosed mental illness. Sounds like both here.
I also lay some blame with the investigators. It sounds like they went on the word of the priest that all seemed well, rather than actually finding him and interviewing him themselves. So eone that shows up to their lawyers office and states forget the suit, thinking you are god, and in pajamas has something severely wrong with them.

I can see mental illness as a reason. A custody battle seems crazy that a parent would rather kill then lose custody that's just serious screwy!

The guy is a disgusting piece of slime. No reason for killing a child. I am sickened, why or how people can do this, is beyond me.

These people are sick. There are so many sick people in the world. If we could keep them from having children, we would. If we could keep them away from guns and knives and other weapons we would. Same for keeping the sick people away from children or stop them being sexual predators. There will always be sick people. It is one of the tragedies of life.

It is mental illness.

I agree. Usually from what I have noted though, it is the parent that has lost custody and doesn't want the spouse to have them. Whether through hateful derangement of the ex or the total feeling of loss, I don't know which.

So if you were sent out as a social worker then one piece of information besides investigating a claim of abuse would be to note that there is a nasty custody battle going on.

Would be hard to know if one parent is making a false claim to get custody or of the other parent is really a dangerous abuser.

I wonder if this guy had a record previously, and if family services get access to things like that?

He isn't mental illness, it is pure evil. They would rather kill a living person, which they see as a possession, than to relinquish control to another person.

These people are narcissistic, psychopaths, no conscience, just looking out for themselves and no regrets about what they have done,,other than how it effects them.

That could be true too. It's hard because a kid is powerless and at the mercy of an adult.

My father was real violent, thankfully my mom left him and I was able to move forward into a better life.

But when I read things like this, I wonder why parents do this, and then I wonder why in some instances children are removed from their parents care over nothing and then in other instances they end up dead because nobody wanted to intervene.

It's just sad.

That soulless fuck should be executed. In fact, the prohibition on cruel and unusual punishment should be suspended....just for this piece of dung.

I don't care why he did what he did. I am even less empathetic as to his mental condition.
This is a crime which so outrages the community that only severe punishment is warranted.
This inhuman garbage should be fed to starving sharks
