It just occurred to me. I have long heard the term “October surprise.” Its meaning always seemed clear to me. A very apt turn of phrase.

I have always assumed that it spoke about what an incumbent President has an ability to do: ie, to fuck-around with a political opponent. HOWEVER, I just realized that it might be a tool of the opponent, too, not just a tool of the President.

This may be old news. (I Learn shit every day) Now, I’ll start by asking. Does anyone know already if the term “October surprise” has always meant a term that could be used by both opponents?
