The Phillies were confident Bo Bichette was Philadelphia-bound — until he wasn’t.

Bichette passed on the Phillies’ reported seven-year, $200 million offer to join the NL East rival Mets on a three-year, $126 million deal with a higher average annual value and multiple opt-outs.

I have followed the "where will Bo go" drama because he really was the key for which big money team will win the next World Series. Honestly, had he not been injured during the World Series, the Jays would have been world champions.

But what would cause a player to take a $74 million pay cut to play for New York instead of Philly? No wonder the Phillies are all red faced as he spurned them. How embarrassing is that? Is playing in Philly that bad? And forget about the pay cut, Bo will be paying more in taxes as well, having to live in New York City, making his earnings even less.

Very perplexing.

Well, it looks like the Phillies won't be in the World Series next year. As for the Mets, they definitely make the playoffs with Bo now, but being the Mets, I'm not sure that even Bo can help them along with all the money in the world can help them over the dysfunctional hump of losing that is associated with that organization.

We shall see.

Hilarious!

why wouldnt the phillies make the playoffs?....they have the same team as last year...and bichette isnt going to make up the 128 RBI's that Alonso gave them....

No, they will probably make the playoffs, but they want to go to the World Series, something I don't think will happen now.

The really big money teams buy their way into the playoff.............unless maybe you are the Mets or Cubs, that is.

Bo did well here. I knew he was gone. He is a great batter, very weak arm. He is playing 3rd base? Good luck with that. I hope the 1st baseman can dig up grounders thrown from 3rd.

the phillies have been in 1 WS in the last 10 plus years...so yea they may not get there...

Being old school, I'm not into buying championships. In rooting for the Guardians, I'm satisfied with a season where they finish at least .500 and am delighted with anything over 85 wins.

Probably Phillies $200m over 5 years. He took the three year (do math) $126m so he can get out easier if it falls apart? They usually want the guaranteed years too? But get out and get $60m per from LA?

Winning. But if shocked is right on the arm?

Having the same team for the last several years and peeking out getting to one series and losing and losing in disappointing fashion in all the other playoff years is tiresome. At some point, why follow them after spending all of that money and become front runners as fans if they get that far. Also, at some point some form of spending socialism must come to the sport. The Phillies spend a lot on players. More than most teams yet are pikers compared to a few others.

MLB has the big market teams buying all the talent. The NFL has a fairer system.

at least they make the playoffs....try being an angel fan....

  • Bichette's stats: He recorded an average arm strength of 82.3 mph, with a maximum throw of 86.3 mph. This placed him in the 36th percentile overall among qualified MLB position players.
  • Comparison to peers (other shortstops): The league average arm strength for shortstops in 2025 was 85.7 mph. Bichette's 82.3 mph is about 3.4 mph below this average, putting him in the bottom third among qualified shortstops. For context, here's how he stacks up against the top 10 shortstops by average arm strength in 2025 (based on the same Statcast metric):

Overall, while Bichette's arm isn't among the weakest in MLB (some infielders average in the low 70s or even 60s mph), it's a relative weakness for a shortstop, where stronger throws are often needed for plays from deep in the hole. This has contributed to discussions about potentially moving him to a less demanding position like third base, where the 2025 average arm strength was 85.6 mph—still above his mark

As I said, alot of ground balls to first and with his arm speed it may be the split second needed a few times a season in which a runner can beat his throw.
