Even though both are quite usefully applied to certain parties on this ::cough cough:: site.

Well, that's just silly. You're Emily Ingram. Spellcheck knows best, after all.

My 2nd grade teacher kept giving me points off my homework for spelling my last name incorrectly until I told her that she should call my father and tell him because I surely wasn't going to say a word. She did call and dad straightened her out.
He said "That's the way my father spelled it his entire life. It's the way I have spelled it my entire life. It is the way I taught my son to spell it and it is NOW the way YOU will spell it. Have I made myself clear?"

I got an "A" in spelling the rest of 2nd grade.

ETA: Spell check agreed with the damned teacher until I straightened that out.

Bee fore a veiling checker's Hour
spelling mite decline,
And if we're lacks ore have a laps,
We wood bee maid too wine.

Butt now bee cause my spelling
Is checked with such grate flair,
Their are no fault's with in my cite,
Of nun eye am a ware.

Now spelling does knot phase me,
It does knot bring a tier.
My pay purrs awl due glad den
With wrapped word's fare as hear.

To rite with care is quite a feet
Of witch won should be proud,
And wee mussed dew the best wee can,
Sew flaw's are knot aloud.

Sow ewe can sea why aye dew prays,
Such soft wear four pea seas,
And why eye brake in two averse
Buy righting too pleas.
