It isn't about protecting trade routes from e.g. China - since there is no single incident that would support the claim that the PRC would obstruct civilian or military shipping routes in the South-China-Sea, or the pacific or anywhere else. Nor is it about securing European NATO countries - since they have their own defense budget of around US$ 430 Billion. - as opposed to Russia's defense budget of around US$ 100 billion in 2024 (30% of their governmnet spending)!!!

It's solely and always has been only - to support/ensure US global hegemony. Which is vital for the US economy.
