It was reported that sharks were doing the wave at the idea of more drug running boats would be a’sploded by the US military.

The best defense is offense, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said Thursday as he outlined the purpose of the American military buildup near Venezuela.

“President Trump ordered action — and the Department of War is delivering. Today, I’m announcing Operation SOUTHERN SPEAR,” Hegseth wrote in a post on X.

Sounds like both China and Russia are using this as an opportunity to expand their influence to the western hemisphere using Venezuela as a jumping off point. I would imagine that the powers that be are aware of this, hence the military build up.

We need to get China out of the Americas and Panama. Russia is busy in Ukraine, but their subs visit Cuba.
I'm curious how this unfolds. Maduro must be sleeping in undisclosed locations.

I've got an idea that Rubio and Hegseth are waiting for Maduro or Petro to make a move militarily so that they can invade. Mixed emotions. I don't want Russian or Chinese bases in S. America, but I don't want us to be embroiled in a banana republic war either.

I thought that gal who won the Peace Prize would be the heir apparent to Maduro?
No need to do anything except remove Maduro, unless some generals get stupid and need further convincing.

China is wooing Maduro big time and I suspect they are doing the same in Colombia.

I thought Columbia was a US ally?
China is all over South America, we'll see how Trump handles delicate negotiations.
China has had designs on Panama for a few decades now and yeah, they are constantly trying to make inroads but to date they haven't got any real power. However, small countries always seek the assistance of larger countries when they perceive a threat.
AI response.
Colombia's President Gustavo Petro has expressed strong criticism of U.S. drug interception tactics, particularly military strikes on suspected drug trafficking boats, which he views as violations of human rights. This tension has led to a reevaluation of Colombia's international partnerships, including a potential warming to China as an alternative ally in addressing drug trafficking issues. Colombia's Response to US Drug Interceptions

Suspension of Intelligence Sharing

Colombian President Gustavo Petro has ordered a halt to intelligence sharing with the United States. This decision follows a series of US military strikes on vessels suspected of drug trafficking, which have resulted in significant civilian casualties. Petro emphasized that the fight against drugs must prioritize human rights, stating that the military must cease all communications with US security agencies until these attacks stop.

US Military Actions

Since August, US strikes in international waters have reportedly killed at least 75 people. These operations, aimed at combating drug trafficking, have drawn criticism for being excessive and potentially violating international law. Critics, including Petro, have labeled these actions as extrajudicial killings.

Shift in International Relations

In light of the tensions with the US, Colombia appears to be exploring closer ties with China. This shift may be part of a broader strategy to seek alternative partnerships and support in addressing drug trafficking and other issues. The Colombian government has expressed a desire for international cooperation that respects human rights, indicating a potential pivot away from traditional alliances.

Conclusion

Colombia's recent actions reflect growing frustration with US drug policy and military tactics, alongside a potential realignment towards China for support in combating drug trafficking and enhancing human rights protections.
