The bill provided a multi-billion dollar slush fund to be paid out to businesses at the discretion of Steve Mnuchin and Donald Trump, with no accountability or strings attached. Since both Trump and Mnuchin has demonstrated an incredible capacity for corruption and self-dealing, it would be fiscally irresponsible to give these men billions of dollars to spend without accountability.

There was a 30 hour period to discuss extra terms that the GOP would’ve signed off on anything just to get this passed. So either the dems who co-wrote this are evil scum as well, or this is just playing politics so the headline reads pelosi and house pass relief bill, instead of bipartisan relief bill passed in senate.
Trump is just that careless and stupid, and yes he will. Trump has been putting a gun to his own head and pulling the trigger endelessly throughout his administration. Separating families, attempting to extort the Ukrainians, spending every weekend golfing on the public dime. There is absolutely no evidence that the Administration will spend the money wisely or well. That lesson was learned with the TARP relieve in 2008.

FDR was a virtual dictator, unionism grew, unemployment stayed Sky High until Japan pulled Pearl Harbor job on us in Hawaii. All kinds of risky schemes were cooked up by Roosevelt,he invented welfare, unemployment checks, the Projects, you name it and had teeming masses of low information voters backing him.

I think it would be a tragedy.
But how would it be an economic disaster ?
With a life span of 75 years, that means that the population turns over every 75 years. That is a death rate above 1% per year. Which is consistent with other numbers if I am doing the math correctly.
I don't want to see it happen and I pray it does not.
But I am not sure how it is an economic disaster.

So the Democrats don't want this package to be just another bailout for corporations in which they can use that money to do stock-buy backs while still laying off workers that the bill was SUPPOSED to be helping....I am sure the GOP will claim the Democrats created the virus to kill Americans or whatever BS they lying about this week -- and the Dems will cave and the bill will pass with no oversight on the corporations..

Remember the Last Global Pandemic? Probably Not
In 2009, a new strain of H1N1 influenza emerged. It did not cause anywhere near the disruption that Covid-19 has, and for good reason.
