Herman Bell was released from the maximum-security Shawangunk Correctional Facility in upstate Ulster County on Friday around 5 p.m., according to the state prison website.

Bell, 70, was convicted in 1979 of the 1971 murders of Police Officers Joseph Piagentini and Waverly Jones in Harlem. He was also convicted of the 1971 murder of a California cop.

Prison officials said Bell would be supervised in Brooklyn for the rest of his life upon release. They declined further comment.

In the hours before Bell walked out of prison — after nearly 40 years in captivity — police union president Patrick Lynch and state Sen. Martin Golden once again denounced the Parole Board’s decision to release him.

He served more than double the average time that a Murderer normall serves. The average is 20 years. That average is people who served a lot less, and those who served more than 20 years.

So he killed two cops in Harlem, one cop in California and a women.
Forty years is a slap on the wrist.

So New York State is authorized to enforce laws in California? Since when?

I hope he's arrested in Cali and gets another forty years!!!

What woman did he kill? Can't find that.

It's right under his mug shot.

.Hey, you do realize that there's a reason why we have parole, right? It's to get the prisoners to behave themselves and try to turn their lives around.

No. It's to provide empty beds for the new wastes of flesh and oxygen getting g sent up the river.

I'll be shocked if he isn't arrested again within 9 months.

Maybe, but at his age, it might just be so he can get free room and board.
