This is not true. Moscow is located in the extreme Western part of Russia, which is 6700 miles long. If Putin were to "rear his head" and come into the air space of the united States of America, it would likely be to visit Washington for meetings with US Government members or into New York to visit the UN. Putin is based out of Moscow, which is only a few hundred miles from Europe. In fact, Moscow is only 1500 miles from London and about 4500 miles from Moscow to New York. That is equal distance from Moscow to Alaska. If Putin were to visit the United States and fly over Alaska, he would then have to fly an additional 4000 miles or so to travel to new york or washington.

Fact: there have been no trade missions from Alaska to Russia since '97... none on Palin's watch.

Fact: foreign trade and trade missions are not interchangeable.

So let me get this straight, you're comparing a country "6700 miles long from West to East" and a population of 140 million that we were involved in a cold war with for 30 years and still has hundreds of nuclear tipped ICBM and was just involved in a shooting war with a bordering country last month with a island nation 670 miles long with a population of 11 million that can barely feed itself and we have a military base on?

It's a silly argument. Hawaii, being so isolated, and having been attacked once, would make a better argument. But it is still a silly argument, given the types of threats are changing to suitcase bombs and whatnot, and are less concerned with geography as they used to be.

California has a huge economy so they get the press coverage. Is it unreasonable to believe Alaska's Governor does the same?
