Never count out the motivations of individuals to keep their communities healthy. That’s what I’m counting on to continue where a lot of people (individuals and groups) are doing what it takes to make their community a good one. As most would agree, a healthy community involves above average educational opportunities, a clean environment, and a safe environment.

As a kid I believed that our government and society is built from the top down, which is the direct opposite of reality. My previous impression was based upon: national media’s projections that the government’s purpose is to “save us all” inflicting instant lazy-itis on the masses which I rejected instantly, various heads of state declaring to be at the helm of “all” progress, and state officials having power to override city and town officials. I had it backwards as a kid, yet many adults maintain that backward viewpoint.

Voters with lazy-itis are easy to spot because of their vocalized expectations and demands for a free ride. Any effort to better oneself is left to the wayside, because why make a community effort when big government throws out just enough to keep one dependent? A horrible outcome for all Americans when a majority of able-bodied and minded adults believe that a good community is a lazy community.

I know the kids at my school certainly got educated.

The schools here focused on making sure they got lunch rather than an education. Most of the year my youngest 2 were getting a grand total of 2 hours instruction time PER WEEK. When things got 'better' they added one whole hour. Booklets were put together for us to pick up that had loads of busy work in them to make it appear as though they were learning but they consisted of rehashing the same garbage over and over again as there was insufficient time for instruction. The teachers were not even looking at the work itself - nothing was graded or gone over at any time. Nothing in the booklets was new, both my grade schoolers could have finished them on the fist day without an issue. They were expected to do the work and then, essentially, throw it away. School was essentially cancelled Wednesday entirely, they had 0 instruction and were assigned more busy work for that day. When hybrid school actually opened in the last few months of the year they were going for two whole days per week on a half day schedule. The majority of the time was taken with the insane bus schedule and, of course, ensuring they got lunch when they got to school and lined up to receive a bunch of food at the end of the day that was thrown away anyway as they did not want most of it. Of course, that directly impacted the already piss poor remote learning as well.

That does not even cover the massive amounts of truancy that occurred as less than half the class was present on any given day in the virtual sessions because it was so worthless. The vast majority of the time was taken trying to keep those that were there listening because the students learned very quickly they could sign in, say they were there and then go straight to playing games on the Ipad or playing somewhere else. Or the fact that teachers regularly kicked my first grader out of class because the system was so fucked they could not keep them separate from the other grade levels during the 'specialist' sessions where they tried to stick 3 entire grade levels across the entire school in one damn class. You should try and see how well 2 instructors can teach a remote class with 50 students in the same damn zoom lesson. It was pointless. And this is all JUST the straight out instruction failure. The process failed on multiple levels as well from broken links to entire days of classes missing because of system failures.

It was made crystal clear this last year that the education system in Washington state has one damn goal and it is not education. The only thing they gave a rats ass about was making sure the kids got lunch. I do not need a school to feed my kids lunch, I can do that perfectly well. I need them to provide a damn education. If food is such a big concern then make an agency that handles that rather than throwing out the education in a vain attempt and getting kids some chicken nuggets. Clearly they were utterly incapable of doing so. It has brought to the forefront how fucking pitiful they are at doing their jobs.

Every damn person that was part of this process needs to go.

Sure, my actual experience is just an imagination. What the fuck ever, I KNOW what happened in my school district because I was THERE. I dealt directly with the broken system. I even attended over half the zoom meetings for my third grader myself to ensure he was properly paying attention as the teacher had some difficulties. He is smart and discovered quite quickly how he could game the system. I gave specific details on how they fucked up as well. I knew you would ignore that of course, clearly your question originally was not even remotely honest in its intent.

You shared nothing and you outright stated my account was false. All you stated that the full curriculum is being taught and, considering you claimed a geometry class, that certainly would not apply to the account of my 1st and 3rd graders nor does it even matter in the context I was talking about. If the later grades are presenting the full curriculum that does not mean they are teaching it. I did not go into my 7th grader because the problems there are totally different, they provide the classwork for him but STILL are not providing the proper instruction. Most of his work had to be self taught because, again, the number of instructional hours are a mere fraction of what they were. None of the teachers are on the same page and are operating under totally different methods. One of his teachers passed away (not sure if it was COVID related or not) and the class essentially disappeared. They just stopped having any instruction in that class. I would detail the problems we have had there too but, as I pointed out last post, there is little point.

Honestly, after this last year of utter failure, every single person in the education system needs to be fired and the system rebuilt. Essentially, my kids have received zero education from their school for an entire year. I have never been so dissatisfied with the public school system.

The utter failure over the last year has chased a lot of parents out of public education entirely though. Unfortunately I do not think that is going to wake them up to the mistakes they have made and it certainly will not effect their funding. It is clear that the schools do not actually value education and that is insane for a system supposedly aimed at that goal.

My district was not really using any platform considering all three of my kids were on separate systems. They used canvas, ingenuity and seesaw. I guess you could claim that canvas was the district one as they all had some interaction with that one but none of my first graders work was not done there at all and the vast majority of my 7th grader was on ingenuity. That does not cover the dozen or so other programs they tried to cobble together that had no real interaction with the main programs either. Another abject failure, the district could not even normalize the software that the children had to interact with causing all sorts of other problems as well. Hell, they could not even normalize schedules, all my kids started school at a different time, ended school at a different time and had no connection during the day. Considering my younger kids were in the same school, that is absolutely unacceptable.

But I guess that did not happen either, right?

The solution is to dissolve the unions. They are the ones who protect teachers like this from being fired. Short of raping a child there is no accountability
